Sam hadn't done badly for himself, all things considered. He'd had a rough start, having ended up in the economy stables twice in his three year old season. That meant he was now on his third home, but it seemed at least that he was stable now. The bay colt had found himself a home, had found somewhere to run, and had found himself a family. After all, that was what they were at Silver Stride Stables - one big family. Now, he ran under the influence of the red-headed jockey Jacob.
No one was sure why Jacob had picked Sam out at the sales. His reasoning had been the colt's calm nature, but it had been a gamble which had paid off. Since finding himself a home he'd gained another two wins and had placed in the Breeder's Cup Sprint. It was a goal for him to beat in the coming year, and as a sprint horse he would be a valuable stud when he was finally retired. But hopefully he would reach new heights before then. Grade three, preferable grade two. Jacob hoped for better, but he also knew not to get his hopes too high. Sam was a wonderful colt, but he was still a colt who had suffered abandonment on more than on occasion... Sam was a colt that Jacob hoped to prove a point with.
As they walked the turf track the bay colt flexing his muscles, Jacob kept an eye on the world. He was seeking cmpetition, someone for Sam to race against to improve his chances in future races, including the breeder's cup.
