HERE'S THE KING WORKS FOR STARSHINE SPRINT
WINDBREAKER WORKS FOR SUPERSTAR SPRINT
The pair were entered in separate races, on different surfaces, and both were against some top sprinters. Here's The King would be running in the second sprinter series races, the Starshine Sprint, which was six furlongs on dirt. He'd placed an unfortunate fourth in the last race of the series, the Butter Cup Sprint, which had been on turf. Windbreaker was entered in the Superstar Sprint along with Seraphim, which was six furlongs on turf for Grade fours and up. She'd placed second in the Butter Cup Sprint.
They were just slow galloping six furlongs on turf today. Nothing too taxing of their energy, since they'd raced the past weekend and were about to race again this weekend. Here's The King would be up against five other horses in his race, including Beltane and Pegasus Wings, both whom had beaten him last time out. The stallion was frustrated at his loss, and had been in a mood ever since losing to those horses. Stella wondered if he knew that Pegasus Wings was his half brother, and vowed to make plans with his rider to work together in the near future.
Gate one of the Starshine Sprint would hold Gamble On Peace, a relatively inexperienced but nice two year old from Gelli Aur Stables. Realistically, he didn't stand a chance and Stella felt quite bad for the colt, since most of the other entrants were all older than him by three years. Gate two was another entrant from Gelli Aur Stables. Native Gold, a five year old G4 mare who was having a good season. Limited Bluez was the third and final entry from Gelli Aur Stables. He was a five year old who hadn't won since he was three, presumably due to frequent changes of ownership.
Beltane was from Silver Stride Stables, and was a decent three year old grade three filly. She was running a very solid season so far, and especially after winning the Butter Cup Sprint, was a solid threat. Grade one Pegasus Wings from Stride of Perfection Stables was Here's The King's half brother. They seemed to take it in turns beating each other, so perhaps it would be King's turn this time. He needed it, as he hadn't won since March.
Windbreaker was up against five other horses also, including Seraphim. White Chocolate was the first entrant, from Gelli Aur Stables. The mare had this year become a superstar, with eight of her nine wins to her name won this year. But for some reason she hadn't won since the Girl's Festival, and some were calling that she may be battling an injury or illness. Silver Birch was in gate two, also from Gelli Aur Stables. He was grade four, and doing well this year, but his most recent start had been 6th in the Buttercup Sprint, which made it obvious that he wasn't quite ready for this level of competition.
Seattle Sun was next, from Silver Stride Stables. An excellent sprinter, but he hadn't won since the Boy's Festival. Super Sparky from Oak Hill Farm was six years old, and hadn't won since his three or four year old season. Seraphim, who Stella rode, had had a decent season so far. She'd won the G3 and lower stakes race the Star Festival*, beating out most of the horses here, and she'd most recently won the Pink Stakes in June Week 4. Windbreaker was G1, and the winner of this years Unicorn Horn Sprint. She had not won since May and had most recently placed second in the Butter Cup Sprint, so Dave really hoped for a win here.
Six furlongs was up, and both horses had barely broken a sweat. They weren't impressed about having to run so slowly, but they'd be thanking us later when they won their races. They were certainly ready for those wins!
