BORN TO SOAR AND INDIAN DELIGHT WORK FOR THE UNIVERSAL CUP
He'd done it! Indie had reached grade one in time for one of the biggest races of his career. The only issue was, that Sarah was the regular rider for both horses that were eligible for the prestigious Universal Cup. So as both of them would be running, she had to decide which one to hand to Marissa, and she had to decide now. Stick with Born To Soar, and she would almost surely win it. Stick with Indian Delight, and he could win it. If Marissa rode Born To Soar, the filly might be confused but she'd still race hard as ever. If Marissa rode Indian Delight, the colt would get a rude awakening - Marissa would certainly show him who was boss.
Sarah sighed, closed her eyes, and knew who to choose. Opening her eyes, she strode over to the tall chestnut filly, and mounted up. Marissa looked a little disappointed. It was clear she wanted the super filly over the somewhat immature colt, but she knew why Sarah had chosen Born To Soar. Indian Delight could be difficult to handle, and Marissa could definitely handle him after Vindictive Fury, Furious Passion, Silent Fury and Stalker's Fury. He was also a front runner, which was practically her special type of horse.
Marissa also mounted up, and smiled. The colt pranced beneath her, not seeming to be worried about having a different person on his back. She ridden him before, but Sarah rode him 99% of the time. They began their warm up, and had a discussion about the race. It had to be the smallest Universal field in history, with only three entrants. Of course, the only other entrant was Executioner's Apprentice.
They had completed a lap of trotting and were cantering now. Indian Delight was pushing his nose forward as always, keen to gallop. As they flashed by the four furlong pole, both horses burst forward. Indie attempted to grab the lead, but Born To Soar matched him stride for stride. Sarah grinned, realising the pair had never raced before. This breeze was going to be the first time, and the race this weekend would be the real first time.
They turned the corner, and accelerated into the straight. Now, Born To Soar began to assert herself, and pulled ahead. After a few moments, Sarah's peripherals caught movement and knew Indian Delight had caught up. There was barely a furlong left, and both horses speed dueled, with neither making any headway. They flashed by the finish, perfectly in sync with one another. Neither had won. The girls slapped high fives, and rubbed their mounts sweaty necks. The race was going to be one for ages. Three talented horses who would not back down. They were ready for it.
