what to do with you? (Cav + Krown)

<sup>Hailey sat on her chestnut Quarter Horse gelding, Cherokee. She used him for ponying younger horses or just horses who needed an extra hand. Sometimes, she would just take him for spin around the track and watched the morning workouts, like she was doing today. She enjoyed riding and would have been a jockey if she had been smaller. Instead, she took up training and it seemed to be going pretty well, so far.

She held her clock in one hand, leaning on the saddle horn. She looked over a couple of horses working and then her gaze went to the next horse behind them. A single filly and rider, travelled. A sense of recognition flashed through her eyes. Before her eyes was a daughter of Rising Fury, Stalker's Fury. Hailey had been a fan of the hot headed filly simply because of her dam. It was too bad that she hadn't won a race yet. Hailey glanced at the rider. She recognized her aswell. Marissa Star. Then she noticed that Marissa was actually crying. Hailey came to ignore all the other horses working and focused her attention on those two. What had happened? Then it happened all too fast.

Suddenly, Marissa was on the ground and Stalker was charging away madly. Hailey gasped and ran over what she should do. Go help her or go catch Stalker? Then she realized that someone was already rushing to help her. Hailey turned Cherokee down the stretch and kicked him into a flat out gallop after Stalker.</sup>

<sup>Hailey whipped Cherokee and he ran flat out after Stalker. The Quarter Horse wasn't the best runner when it came to distance but he had some serious speed. Hailey's eyes stayed trained on Stalker who was galloping out strongly a few lengths in front of them. Suddenly, Stalker decreased her speed, barely noticeable. Hailey saw the opportunity though and kicked Cherokee even faster. The chestnut increased speed. Hailey leaned over the saddle horn, hand outstretched. Stalker spotted them when they were only a length behind and bolted away even faster. Hailey kicked Cherokee again hoping that he a bit more to give; he did.

He pulled up on the filly's flanks. Hailey knew how much cunning the Rising Fury foals had, having to catch Furious just a few days ago and leaned over with her hand out, very cautiously. She glanced at Stalker's head, taking in her pinned ears and felt the filly meet her gaze. Hailey grasped the free reins and leaned back in the saddle. Cherokee abruptly slowed to a trot. Hailey got a better hold on the reins before turning both horses around and trotting down the stretch with Stalker in hand. She slowed them as they approached Jeff and Marissa.

Marissa was sitting up so that was a good sign that she was okay. "I caught your filly." Hailey smiled and hopped off of Cherokee, letting him on a loose lead as she lead Stalker up closer to them. "Are you okay?" She asked Marissa before glancing at Jeff. She wondered how Nick had taken the Furious and Anodyne accident. She hoped not too bad. "Hey, Jeff." She shot him a tiny smile. She truly wasn't mad at all.</sup>

<sub>Jeff was relieved when he saw that Hailey had successfully caught the runaway filly. He returned the smile to Hailey, showing that he was no worse for the wear. Ara instantly became aware of the filly. She rolled her eyes defiantly. Jeff quickly reined her in and pulled her rearing head down...Chill Ara.. She stilled, but her eyes were locked on the filly...Jeff kept a hand on her neck stilling her and to be able to maneuver the three year old if she tried anything stupid. He always got the edgy horses...he smiled at the thought. He really wouldn't have it any other way.

He smiled to Marissa. So Marissa was her name.. He wasn't likely to forget her name anytime soon. Glad to hear there is no serious damage...it's a pleasure to meet you Marissa...the name's Jeff. I just arrived here...working as a jockey for Nick Landing.

He smiled and nodded in her direction, but was still being mindful of Ara....

Hailey...nice to see you again under more normal circumstances. He smiled with a teasing glint in his eyes as he remembered their hectic runaway encounter...

These runaway encounters was going starting to become the norm for their accidental meetings. He looked over the filly that had tossed her rider. She was beautiful and he said so. That's a nice filly you have there...she looks to be full of spirit. That was the way he liked them too.

<sub>Jeff chuckled at Hailey's comment, acknowledging that they always did seems to meet on unusual conditions. She seemed to be a good sport though. He waved a farewell to Hailey and turned his full attention once again to the stunning brunette.

He cleared his throat a little and licked his lips, while turning to keep Ara in check. She was not taking kindly to the runaway filly with a 'tude.

Well, let's get out of the way shall we? He led his dark bay filly and gave Stalker a wide berth. Ara was an Augusto lined filly, hot-tempered with a short fuse. He could tell that Marissa's mount was along the same lines so he wisely kept Ara a good distance.

He attempted to make small talk...not really wanting this mysterious woman to just up and leave...granted he knew he'd probably see her in the races...but that just wasn't the same.

So...uh...do you normally go sailing through the air or were you a little preoccupied with something weighing on your mind? As soon as the question he mentally slapped himself...too personal Jeff!

He quickly apologized. Sorry, that is a personal question and you barely know me. He ducked his head a bit and patted Ara who was annoyed that she wasn't running with the other horses working on the track. She tossed her head defiantly at his attentions and he rolled his eyes...females...I'll never please them or understand them..</sub>

It sounds to me like you must have some interesting horses to ride. He chuckled. He should know. If he had the choice to choose his mounts he always choose the more vivacious horse...it just always seemed more fun to work with the edgier more intelligent horses. It certainly never left a dull moment.

He halted Ara off to the side, they were successfully out of the way. He watched exercise riders breeze by, Ara's eyes locked onto each horse that sailed by and she let loose a scream of frustration as she tossed her head wildly. Jeff quickly turned to the filly and swiftly brought her in hand. Easy, Ara...easy. He slapped the filly neck and she arched her neck, she wasn't one to stand still long on a track with running horses and Jeff knew this...but he simply couldn't leave Marissa...not yet..

He saw that she had been crying and a deep part of him wanted to know why as a sense of protection welled up within him for this brunette beauty. He was shocked as he analyzed the thought, he'd barely met this woman and already he was feeling a deep emotional response to Marissa...he just simply couldn't pull himself away.

Your filly is gorgeous and lively, what's her story? Being new to the tracks he didn't know much yet about the horses here on this circuit and it was a perfect excuse to keep talking to her...</sub>
