SPIRIT OF JOY Ridden by Chris Stevens
August Maiden Turf // August workout[/center]
It had been at least 3 months since Spirit of Joy had been back on the track and Chris thought it would be best to bring him out to work him so he could get him used to the Turf again. Spirit tended to run in front of the pack at distances he was well ready to take on anyone. He was one of the first colt's at Bowen Acres and should have been worked more then usual. Spirit was already saddled up and Chris had him come to a canter already on the track.
"Ah come on boy 3 months out gave you a long rest let's see what you can accomplish." He said grabbing the reins and pulling forward as when Spirit seemed to be okay Chris urged the bay colt to go into a full speed gallop and the horse bolted from his place going full speed in the center of the track picking up speed in every direction.
The colt was doing extremely well and placing 2nd in the Y12 March stable face off. The colt was well rested and Chris thought it was time to bring him back he did feel slow to the fact he should have brought him back a month ago but, things became hectic with other top races going on that Chris rode. Spirit was a 3 year old and had a lot of potential on being a great champion but, he was up against great horses with perfect pedigree's and stamina Chris would work on him so he would get used to the track again.
Spirit of Joy hit the last turn he was on and went at a faster pace knowing where he was at he picked up his speed immediately racing off like he was suppose to moving his feet even farther apart from each other he raised his tail in enjoyment of feeling the turf beneath his hooves. He raced off like a machine not even remembering he had a human on his back.
He was simply very calm on the track focusing on moving forward to get to the finish and as a front runner he did just that. Chris Looked around the horses neck to see where he was heading and he laughed in admiration. "Woooo that's it boy." He said seeing the end of the track from where he started coming up and sat up easing the colt to slow his pace to breath off the run the workout.
Spirit seemed to be up for the run and when he stopped the colt just juggled the bit in his mouth while raising his head ready to go back to his evening feedings. Chris slid off the horse and held the reins close to Spirit. "Let's hope resting for 3 months didn't make you too lazy." He said in a joking manner as Angela came walking up with a smirk upon her face. "He seemed pretty great out there. Haven't seen him out in awhile." She said walking up to the colt rubbing his nose softly.
"He'll do great he's a fighter congrats on Passion by the way that filly has style." He said on the first filly at Bowen Acres. He then pulled Spirit of Joy off the track over to the stables and took off his saddle to guide the weight off while he would rest until race day. He looked at Angela and the two walked off to head back to the track to talk business. Chris was set Spirit was ready race day was coming the results would be final only then would they see how he would do.
