RED ADMIRAL Ridden by Terri Lane
January Workout
January Workout
Terri hadn't ridden Addy for awhile part of which was her fault but, felt the now 4 year old had a good rest to start the new year. Still as a maiden she had hoped to gain the mare's confidence up to race this month. Walking her out of the paddock she placed the saddle over her back and walked her out onto the track. She pulled herself onto the seemingly tall chestnut mare. The mare was gentle to the human getting on her back. She shook the flies off her face and took walked forward onto the dirt tracks of Green Horse Fields and whinnied.
"I know it's been awhile Addy but, why don't we show the younger ones who to watch out for huh?" Terri said guiding the mare to a trot for the start off. The mare used her long legs for power she took longer strides as she stood 17 hands which was pretty impressive for this mare. She would soon enter the steeplechases well that was a plan for her. As she trotted forward and when she reached the half way point she came to a gallop for her sprinting ways.
She took huge steps as she pounded her hooves to the ground. Red Admiral may have been off the track since September and so Terri would hope she had plenty of rest but, she still had a lot of work to do. The chestnut mare took off to a faster pace as she was trained to do and would find her own way to the wire. Addy was all over the track finding her position was hard at first but, once comfortable Red Admiral became friends with the track.
She came to the turn and Terri gave the whip and Red took another faster pace coming to a stride she liked. The mare drove to get home to get to the end and when she did so Terri praised the mare rubbing her neck. It was nice and breezy out so the air would feel good on the horse after a hard workout. The mare would head back to the stables to rest and be prepared for future races. She would soon enter steeplechases with training of course. And hopefully that would get her more experience.
