DARK SUNRISE AND HENNA TURATH
STRICTLY ROYAL AND KRYSTAL YHATE
SUNNY'S WORK FOR THE ACORN STAKES
They were working Sunny with Roy today for her race in the Acorn Stakes against Born To Soar. Why? Simply because Sunny could stand up to Roy's bullying, while other horses could not. His fellow two year olds would not be good for him to work with. Fire would just stonily ignore Roy, potentially leading to a physical conflict. Axia would be hurt by Roy and manipulated. Flash would be Flash - too full of himself, and would potentially fight for his pride. Kiss and Roy just wouldn't go together. But Sunny had experience with this kind of thing, hailing from Akita Rose Stables and her all-male foal crop, after all. Sunny would be the perfect workout partner for Roy. Likewise, Roy would be a good partner to Sunny. Perhaps she would reestablish the friendships she had lost with leaving Akita Rose.
Henna and Krystal were well versed with working with one another. A quick glance was all they needed to know it was time to go. Sunny snorted excitedly and willingly accelerated at Henna's asking. Together, the pair flew, but Roy went faster. The bay thoroughbred arrogantly stuck his nose, then his head, then his whole body and then some in front, racing for the lead and opening two lengths of daylight in the blink of an eye. But this suited Sunny. The black filly calmly waited, letting Roy burn himself out in his arrogance. It would not be long now. The filly had experience, which was rapidly growing with each day, as well as a bond with Henna that was also growing. Though she may not brag the graded race experience of Born To Soar, she did have heart and talent, and the blood to make it big.
Roy eventually settled into a fast cruising pace after two furlongs. He had opened up six lengths of daylight, and looked to be wanting more before being taken in by Krystal. Henna smirked and waited patiently, biding her time. From what she had heard, Sunny was a strong closer. She would come charging late in the race, and was an excellent stretch runner. The key to her success would be timing the run perfectly. If Henna did that, the race could very well be theirs. Born To Soar's racing style was as a preceder. If that was true, she'd probably take the lead in the early stages. Henna's goal was to keep Sunny out of the lead. She wanted to use her closing advantage to its fullest. Sunny had recently won the Grade Five Dirt at the Stable Face Off meet in this closing style, meaning it was a strong point Henna wanted to take advantage of.
Roy, on the other hand, was a front runner, and a tactical one. Now he appeared to realize how far behind Sunny was, and the arrogant colt possessed enough brain to realize this was suspicious. So he slowed his pace a bit, conserving some energy, much to the relief of his rider. Henna smirked, enjoying the challenge the two year old colt was proving to be. But Sunny was talented. She may not have shown her full potential quite yet, but shards of it were beginning to poke through, and she was becoming sharper and faster. With the final turn fast approaching, Henna hoped to unveil some of this talent in Sunny's sprint for the win.
Quickly, quickly, the three year old filly unraveled her legs at Henna's asking. Like lightning, she soared up the track, narrowing the gap and running her heart out. Willingly, she chased after Roy and after glory. Roy, on the other hand, was actually ready for this, much thanks to Krystal's experience. As the filly came up alongside, he was finally released, and stride for stride the duo approached the wire. But Sunny was already in full swing, and Roy couldn't get the speed up fast enough. He wasn't that experienced yet. Sunny stuck a nose, then a neck, then a half length in front of the colt before the wire. In stunning fashion, she had proven her veiled talent and was sharp for the Acorn and the race of her life.
