Windbreaker and Here's The King work for March Turf/Dirt Stakes

The pair were entered in separate races, on different surfaces. Since King was dual surfaced, he would work on the turf with Windbreaker. They weren't working for important races, just the monthly G4+. Just to keep them on their toes.

Next to the stallion who was nearly two hands taller than her and a whole two years older than her, Windy looked cute as a button. And she was cute, but she could take King on any day. She had heart for miles, and put out everything she had every time she raced. King was similar, the only difference was that he could be distracted by his hormones. Both horses had reached grade one this year, and now were completely ready to storm the sprint races. Especially after winning the sprints at the Unicorn Horn Series. Plus, King had won the Breeder's Cup Sprint(!).

David crouched aboard Windy, Stella on King. The chestnut and bay horses galloped side by side, their eyes keeping a watch on each other and the track ahead. As they rounded the turn, both horses strategically leaned towards the rail, increasing their speed instead of losing it. Once finishing the turn, David cued Windbreaker, and the pair quickly pulled ahead of Here's the King and Stella. Damn Stella thought, immediately asking King to give it everything. The stallion dug in, but it was too late to get in front of the filly. She swept past the finish a whole length ahead of him.

David punched a fist into the air, letting out a laugh. Stella cursed at herself for not being fast enough to cue King. Both riders slowed their horses gradually then turned back to trot off the track. Nothing was going to stop these two this year.

Ignacia, Indian Delight and Studley Dudley work for Willie Nillie Distaff and Top Quality Stakes

Astride the tall, strong young stallion, Marissa felt on top of the world. He showed off a little as he walked the turf, and she enjoyed it. Shortly they would be joined by four year olds Ignacia and Indian Delight, to work for the trio's upcoming races - Ignacia was entered in the Wille Nillie Distaff, and Indie and Stud were entered in the Top Quality Stakes.

After another five minutes or so, Ignacia drew up alongside them, with Stella aboard. Stud put on a little show, arching his neck and breaking into trot. I smiled, reining him back to walk. He certainly was a ladies man. Indian Delight appeared moments later. Let's trot Sarah murmured from Indie's back, cueing the four year old colt appropriately for the two beat pace. Stud competitively tried to get a nose in front, but Indie wasn't having it. He was a front runner through and through; Stud ran better in mid pack. Ignacia and Stella veered to the outside, trying to steer clear of anything that could happen between the stallions.

After a few more minutes, the trio moved on into canter. Sarah held Indian Delight level with the other two, he could move up when they galloped. As they crept up the backstretch, the riders began to prepare to send their thoroughbreds into gallop. A quick four furlong breeze would keep them satisfied now until race day, where they would be on their toes once more.

Indian Delight jumped forward first, followed closely by Stud and then Ida brought up the rear. As a closer, she'd get them in the stretch. They leaned into the turn, gradually increasing their speed as the corner sharpened, then leveled out into the home stretch. Ignacia put on a burst of speed, digging deep and stretching out with long, powerful strides. Studley Dudley then made his move as Ignacia drew level with him, and then powered a neck ahead. Then he kept up with her as they moved up to challenge Indian Delight, who had powered ahead by two lengths.

With barely half a furlong to go, Indian Delight was still ahead, Studley Dudley had powered into second place a half length behind him, and Ignacia was fighting hard, a bare nose behind Stud. A final burst of speed from each horse, and amazingly they drew level with one another. They flashed under the wire simultaneously. There was no doubt they were ready to take the win.

Vindictive Fury and Born To Soar work for the Golden Rose Stakes

With no less than thirteen wins last season, and Triple Tiara champion and winner of the Breeder's Cup Ladies Classic, four year old filly Born To Soar was truly remarkable. Not only that, but the young mare had been crowned Y10 Racehorse of the Year and received multiple other awards. This year, she'd started twice so far, with a win in the Unicorn Horn Classic and a place in the Spring Cup. Sarah believed the horse had super powers.

Vindictive Fury was gradually getting better. Her last season had been her best, with seven wins including one in the Breeder's Cup Marathon. This year, she'd started three times for two wins, one in the Unicorn Horn Series, and a third place. It was looking like the mare was going for her best season yet, and if she was still going strong at the end of this year, it was possible she'd continue racing next year as well. Marissa was really happy with her crazy mare.

The pair began their warm up with the usual trot, then canter, before breaking into gallop at the four furlong pole. Vinny aggressively shot ahead of Born To Soar, like the front runner she was, but Sophia was a force to be reckoned with, and did not allow the other mare to put any distance between them, settling no further than a head behind. They thundered around the turn, Sarah and Born To Soar leaning close to the rail behind Vindictive Fury and Marissa so they didn't lose ground. As the turn finished and they left it behind, Sarah opened her outside rein and Born To Soar swerved out from behind Vinny, and both mares made their move at the same time.

It was an all out speed duel for the rest of the gallop. Neither filly got ahead of the other, in the end, and they crossed the finish line head to head. The riders slapped each other a high five, both grinning. This was perfect; now both of the thoroughbreds would be extra determined on race day, since neither had beaten the other. They were ready to take on the Golden Rose.

Bank On Greatness and Furious Passion work for Summer Scorcher Cup

Two stallions together is not usually safe. And it wasn't now - if the horses weren't tacked up with a rider on their back, on the race track.. Well, it wasn't hard to imagine what could happen. Bank On Greatness was only aggressive around other stallions when mares were about. Furious Passion was pretty much always a bit aggressive, and even more so in the presence of mares and other stallions. But when the saddle is on, it's all about the race.

Eyeing each other, the two young stallions began their warm up, their riders keeping good distance between them. Bank On Greatness was in great condition, especially considering his recent win in the Unicorn Horn Dirt Classic. The stallion had won 9 races last year, including the Breeder's Cup Dirt Mile. Today, his record stood at 56-20-12-11. Hopefully, he'd be another win up after this weekend. But they were up against Furious Passion, among other stallions, and he was certainly a furious competitor.

Furious Passion's start to the season hadn't been spectacular. We put it down to a bit of rough luck, like his near miss in the Breeder's Cup Classic. The colt was a Triple Crown Champion, after all, and a Dubai World Cup winner. His times were still lightning fast, and he still had a 'furious passion' for winning.

As previously agreed, the pair broke into gallop at the six furlong marker. They were just going to gallop four furlongs easily, then a quick blow out on the final two. The huffing sounds of the horses breathing quickened, and their ears turned back from the rushing wind. As they rounded the turn and the straight stretched out before them, each horse naturally began to quicken their pace. Two furlongs to go! Sarah glanced over at the other colt. Passion was aggressively gaining speed, pulling ahead rapidly. She cued Bank On Greatness and the stallion made a break for it.

It wasn't a race, but the horses sure were treating it that way. Each of them fought hard for first place, but there wasn't enough time. They passed by the finish line with Furious Passion ahead by a length. Bank on Greatness dropped back to canter, then trot on cue. Furious Passion circled back to meet them, a slight sheen of sweat forming on the colt's neck. Marissa scratched behind his ears affectionately, also grinning. It was going to be a good race, that was for sure. They were ready to take on the Summer Scorcher.
