The chestnut colt trotted energetically on to the track. Following the victory in his maiden race, it was now time to kick some butt in the upcoming Burning Blaze Stakes. I knew exactly what I was doing today. The sun was beating down on to the dirt and the colt was on his toes. I was wearing my little pink vest top with said on the back 'I do my own stunts' with a horse bucking. The track was fast today, and I knew if Isa was as energetic as he was today, we had a great chance in the Burning Blaze.
Thinking about the other entrants in the race, I had a deep down feeling we weren't going to beat Eternal Phantom. She was a good filly. A very good filly. She had a very good prospect record, and currently won a race and placed in three others. I thought we might have a decent chance with placing second though. In gate one, there was Candid Silver, who we beat last time out (they placed fourth). Then there was Paradise Island. She'd got two wins under her belt, a second, and two thirds. Thirdly, there was us. We had a chance, I knew we did. We could win against these- we were there level now. In gate four, Eternal Phantom, one word, wow. In gate five, we had Azrael, who we also beat last time out. Gate six, Lucky Silver. I've never seen this horse race, but he's got a brilliant record for his age. He has won two races in his prospect season, but as a two year old, he's got two seconds, three thirds, and a fifth. He was still a maiden, so there was chance that we could beat him. Finally, in gate seven, Santana's Gold. She hadn't placed in the top three just yet, but with a fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth, she looked like she would break her maiden sometime soon.
Allowing him to break into a bouncy canter, we took the first turn before we started out work. A grey pony horse came up beside us and took out rein, as the work horse we were working with today was cantering about a furlong ahead of us. Isa pinned his ears flat back and ignored the grey gelding. "You know what you're doing, right?" Said the man upon the smaller grey. I gave a nod, pulled the goggles over my eyes, and got ready. I sat into the steady canter we were going before standing up and leaning forward "Ready? You're starting at the 5/8ths pole." I nodded and smiled before taking some more rein up. The countdown begun and I was let go of to gain some speed at the 6th pole. The work horse was somewhat 50 yards ahead of me, and the whole aim was to catch him before the wire. Isa started out with a short firm stride. We came up to the five eighths pole and I took the crop and put it in my outside hand.
The chestnut colt pricked his ears and let out a piercing whinny. Through his blinkers, he stared furociously at the colt ahead of him. Passing the five eighths pole, I began to urge him a bit. He lengthed his stride but kept his ears pricked. I saw the workhorse slowly getting closer, and with Isa's booming stride, it wasn't long until we we're just a length behind. We moved to the outside of the workhorse as we flew round the home turn, passing the quarter mile. Isa switched his leads and I pushed him more. The more I pushed, the more he delivered. I decided to see how fast we could do this. We had left the workhorse behind and Isa not once pinned his ears during his run. He was loving it. I urged as much as I could and flew across the wire with tremendous style. I punched the air with victory. "Instant Success and Alice Kacey win the Burning Blaze Stakes!" Isa still has his ears pricked as I pulled him up.
Coming back to a walk, I threw my arms round his neck and grinned. "Isa, I couldn't be much happier with you right now." It seemed the colt knew what I was saying. I was so proud and he seemed to know it. I loved my little boy. I trotted him back where the man on the grey pony horse were. "Nice victory punch there, you're really practising!" I smiled and blushed, removing my goggles. "Well thank you. I'm Alice by the way." I smiled. He grinned. "Gavin. Wanna go for a drink sometime?" I nodded and grinned. "Sure thing." I replied. "You have my number, call me." He said, winking. I giggled and nodded, squeezing Isa's sides and walking back into the barn. I dismounted at a walk and Isa turned to nuzzle me. I took a treat out my pocket and gave it to him. I lead him to his stall where I put his halter round his neck and took his bridle off. I undid the girth and pulled his saddle off his back gently. I took a sponge and dunked it in the bucket of water I left there before I worked him, and washed him down, before letting him cool off. "Good boy Isa... we'll win this."
