"It's okay girl," Jacey's soothing voice stroked the chestnut filly's neck. She pricked her ears tall, looking around. It was new to her. Stepping on to the dirt, Jacey kept her at a walk. She was still young. Leah was only learning. She began to side step slightly. The frame of the small six stone female above was so light she could hardly feel the weight. Leah. What a beauty. The slightly gingerish hint of her chestnut coat stood out with the sun reflecting off it.
I came onto the track at a trot. The large colt beneath me refused to walk. I sighed. "He's never going to learn," I said, looking at Jacey hopelessly, then looking back at the floor. She at me. "Alice, look at me," She said. I lifted me head hopelessly. He will. He's a baby. You're still learning, aren't you Tigs?" The colt bobbed his head up and down. We both looked at eachother and burst out laughing.
We began to walk up the track to the gates that stood there. The big green metallic gates. Big, bold, indestructable. A handler came up to us. "The basics today?" He asked us. I nodded, stroking the tall colts neck. Looking down at Jacey, I laughed. The filly must have been atleast a hand smaller, but she was stockier. "Who's going to go first?"
I looked at Jacey and she nodded. "You go," She said. I squeezed the colt forward. He pricked his auds tall and approached the gate. He slightly hesitated but walked straight through with no problems. Leah walked forward, pinning her ears and backing up. With some encouragement, she stepped through. She wasn't very sure, but she did it. They both were loaded into separate stalls. "Just see what there reaction is to the bell..."
Both colt and filly stood side by side. The bell rang and the gates burst open. Pinning her ears, Leah leapt forward and cantered quickly out the gate. Tigs slightly hesitated but leapt out very quickly behind. "Good ponies," Alice said, pulling them up.
