[/blockquote][/blockquote]The morning of the race for both Lily and Danny. Tension was rising in the air as the two newcomers were going to show what they had. The money was on Dawn Of Silence to win... he was definitely a big contender. Runaway Oneleg was the other horse in the field.... definitely some weird horse names around here... mainly at Prison Hill... nice stable... don't be deceived by the name.
I crouched in the stable, on one knee as I finished bandaging the legs of the filly. She was definitely ready for this... but I wasn't sure if Dawn Of Silence would beat her. They're both good maidens, but only one of them can break there maiden today. The sun reflected off the window. I squinted my eyes, and stood, brushing the straw off the knees of my jeans. I reached for my crop and put it in my belt.
Alice looked at me. Gonna be a big day for us... two of our finest two year olds racing for the first time. I nodded in agreement. Oh, and Lucy is coming here to help us out with our horses and possibly ride a couple for us. I widened my eyes. Last time I saw her riding, she could barely canter. She said. Oh Jacey. That was almost a year ago. You haven't seen her now have you. Alice said rolling her eyes. She took her iPhone out of her back pocket and showed her the picture of Lucy on a large bay mare, jumping just over a metre.
Wow... She looks amazing. I said, stroking the neck of Lily, who was anxious and raring to go. I lead her out the stall, and on to the track, where I vaulted on. She wasn't bothered. Why would she be? She's a seventeen two hand high gentle giant. She had subtle moves, and a look to die for.
As they walked around, the sky began to fill with clouds. Crap. I said. I squeezed the filly into trot, then canter. I wanted to see how fast she could run without me touching her. I began to let her go and she ran. Oh boy, she ran like the wind. She flew along the back stretch, pricking her ears and running on. Past the six furlong mark, she wasn't giving up. She pounded along the dirt. It was almost incredible. A display of speed and stamina. Flying round the home turn, I urged her on. She powered through the stretch and past the post.
Good girl! We'll do well today.
