Ophelia was very much a wildcard to Erin Trubell and most of PHS. She had, in every sense of the word, the physical capability. She towered over the fillies and indeed most colts were smaller. She had great speed and a stayer's distance capabilities. Physically, the cremello horse was something of a lightning bruiser. Mentally, she was bruised. Erin didn't know why Ophelia was insane and dangerously so it seemed, but she was well aware she had to ride the filly, and she'd rode her to success before.
Connor was sitting at the gates as Erin approached on her filly, he was prancing and dancing and threatening to rear with what felt like every step. "You got her in one piece? Or at least under control?" He got up and watched Lady Ophelia dance.
"Good as it'll get." Erin said, looking over at the gate. "Let's get her in and do this. before I change my mind." She joked, though she really had no fear of death. Not her death, anyways.
"Fine with me." Connor shrugged. He had since learned not to contest Erin on most matters, though Erin had to emphasize the 'most'. He still had a penchant for asking her out whether she she no or slapped him.
With some struggle, they got Ophelia into the gates. Today's run was to be a practice for the grade five dirt, in the Autumn Cup. It was hard to imagine summer as coming to a close, that she was getting another year older, and that soon it would get cold. At least she'd save on sunscreen; Erin burned far too easily for hr liking and still remained a deathly pale, not unlike the filly beneath her. Mentally, she urged Connor to hurry up in throwing the gates open. Between the large filly and the large jockey, the gate was crammed and if it took much longer-
The thought was scattered from her head before it finished, as the gates sprung open, and with them, Ophelia. The filly always broke fast, throwing dirt up into the air and taking off, leaving the others behind before they knew what was happening. The quick start was something Erin liked, and essential for Ophelia, The filly's temper was one not be reckoned with and was easier to keep her up front than deal with her fighting the others as she ran. If she were a colt, no doubt gelding would have been an option to take.
They tore up the dirt for the first furlong or so, leaving - what Erin would hope in the real race - a large gap between those chasing her and Ophelia. From there, it was all about keeping a steady hand, which was easier said than done with the cremello filly pulling and trying to get the better of Erin. However, the redhead was not so easy to pull, and while her eyes were focused ahead, he hands were drawn up closer to her, pulling on Ophelia's mouth. Harsh for a soft mouth horse, but the filly was not one of those.
They rounded the turn a bit wider than Erin usually took them, but this was part of the plan with Ophelia. Firstly, Ophelia was larger than most horses Erin rode, so cornering got more and more dangerous with size. Secondly, if horses were catching up to her, veering out from the inside to turn could very well cut them all off and reinstate her as an undisputed leader going back into the straight. It was risky, but since when did Erin play it safe?
Once out of the turn, Erin moved Ophelia back to the rail and kept holding her until the final three furlongs. It was there that she let Ophelia use up the rest of her energy reserves, to explosive results. In any race, the ground and her peripheral vision became a but blurry and melty on the edges, just due to speed (not passing out!). However, it wasn't often any of the horses she rode moved so fast the sky above her seemed to blur the clouds together, too.
"Let's hope she can do that again." Connor had only those skeptical words in regards to the run, when Erin and Ophelia had finished. "Anyways, wanna go see the Avengers?"
"Not on your life. Besides, two things. One, the Autumn Cup is what we were practicing for, I don't need popcorn weight right now. Two, I'm going with some girls so I can drool over Loki the entire time."-----------------------
