Midnight Thriller
Workout for the Horseshoe Futurity.
Kirsten grinned from ear to ear as she made her way to the winner's circle at GHF Racecourse. They had done it! Midnight Thriller had won her maiden race on her second try out. She knew she could do it! The black filly pranced beneath her saddle, obviously proud of her accomplishment. Kirsten squealed excitedly and patted her horse fondly.
Kirsten dismounted the juvenile and gave her a hug around the neck. Midtee shook her mane and side-stepped away from her. Kirsten didn't care. They were now on their way towards bigger races. She knew Midtee would be able to take it. As an afterthought she quickly looked up at the board to see where her other horses had ended up. 3rd and 4th. Excellent excellent excellent! She was quite proud of her crop of two year olds this year. Maybe a late start wouldn't be sooooo bad. They might be able to catch up.
Her eight year old daughter came running up to the winner's circle bouncing with excitement. Her five year old nephew was not far behind. "You did it Mama! I knew you could!" Kirsten scooped down and gave Emma a big hug. Benjamin peered towards the track looking for his own mother. He jumped up and waved. "Sissy got forth Auntie." Kirsten nodded. "Yep it was a good run for all of us this race. Our three horses got top four, i'd say we did pretty good." Ben nodded. He had kind of hoped his mom would win but at least it was his auntie that beat her and not someone else...
He stuck by Emma as Kirsten went to go hold the saddle on the metal thing. He never understood that part but whatever. Emma reached down and squeezed his hand. Ben squeezed back, trying to be stronger. She wasn't paying attention.
When Kirsten returned to her little family she lifted Ben up in her arms and pulled Emma close to her while a groom held her precious filly's head. They smiled for the camera. This was only one win in many for Midnight Thriller but it was the start of something great. Now it was time to get the ball rolling. And Kirsten knew just where to start. In the Horseshoe Futurity, against her own twin sister. This was a tough race but Kirsten couldn't wait to put her filly to the test.
