Cold Mountain & Sam Morgan
Workout for December Maiden Dirt
Gate and Full Track
Another horse was ready for Sam to ride, after having one of the horses fighting him he didn't want to another horse fighting him again. The next ride was the new ebony stallion named Cold Mountain, the colt was bought from the sales after his old home was closing down. So far the colt have bitten and attack all the jockey, and left Sam to deal with him. Mountain watched Sam and tired to bite him, with a little tap on the muzzle the colt stopped his actions and Sam mounted up on him. Now boy, you need to learn not to do that around me, I am not afraid of you, he patted his black neck and saw Sean. Same as the last horse, gates, full track for seven furlongs full out like a race. We need to see what he is like on the track Sam nodded and turned the colt towards the dirt track. The sun was beginning to set, and the dirt was moist a little on the inside, which isn't a huge problem and more likely to dry out when the sun comes completely out. It was also a very chilly morning as well, and Mountain was wearing a blanket to help keep him warm as well, it was winter after all.
Sam allowed Mountain to canter a little breezing for moment to help relax his muscles by warming them gently. Once this was done, Sam pulled him up to a trot and then into the gates. Mountain went in calmly and waited for the gates to spring open like mad. Stroking his neck again, to smooth him. Then those gates sprung open and Mountain broke cleanly like a predator was after him. Soon away he got into position and lead the race as he was a front runner. Sam calmed the colt down and held him back little, so he wouldn't use all of his energy. Mountain wasn't happy with this and tossed his head around, fighting for his head. Sam knew this was needed as it helped the last black stallion he ridden to win some of his races, also he was entered in the Maiden Race, if he had any shot of winning against the better horses he need to learn to hold his speed.
Pretty soon Mountain settled into the new pace and his stride was lot happier now as he cantered more smoothly again. Pushing him forward again, allowing him some more freedom and give a sign he could increased his speed. As the turn came Sam yelled extictly and he allowed him to gallop more better and Mountain responded, stretching his limbs out, and the speed was breathless and until you sat on his back you wouldn't be able to live it. Not wanting to tire him out, Sam slowly pulled him up into a trot, and patted his neck. Good boy, he then walked him around, before taking him back to the yard and handed him to the groom. Going to the schedule to see who was next.
