Prize Me Proud
Workout for the COX PLATE.
Aaron grunted and pushed the older horse into a gallop. They were on the turf, working for another race that they will probably place or show in but never win. Aaron shook his head in frustration. Luck was just not on his side this year. Prize Me Proud had been on a roll last year before ARS dropped off the map. Aaron patted his mount and shook his head again. The were heading for their biggest race yet this year and Polo still had not broken his losing streak this year. What was going on?
Polo stretched out his stride and neck and thundered down the turf track. He was putting in good times and was in top condition. He just was not having any luck. It doesn't help that the turf competition was so tough right now, that's for sure. The Cox Plate will not be any different. Wildly Natural was almost a sure bet for the win. It was too bad. Polo really needed a win. Just one win this year. Please.
Aaron kept an eye for his cue. They would be making their move in 3...2...1... Go! Aaron moved his hands up his neck and tapped him with the crop, forcing him to run for home. They picked speed with every stride. Aaron continued to push his mount until he could give no more. They were under the wire. Aaron lifted his crop in victory. He felt like that was their best work yet this year.
Aaron was all smiles as he turned his mount around. He was proud of his work today, it was faultless. Kirsten wouldn't be able to criticize him today. He gave Polo one more pat and dismounted the tall beast. He handed the reins to the handler and turned towards the rail. Kirsten was walking towards him with a frown on her face. Aaron's smile faded. Now what has he done wrong?
