White Chocolate and Skye Webber
Workout for the Breeder's Cup
It was the big one. The race which was great for the stables everywhere. This was one of those major races. There was the spring, summer, autumn and winter cups. The breeders cup right at the end, and also the seaspary cup. Leo have called his entire team of jockeys for the meeting which was to be held. It was a miserable start of the morning, all the stock of Dreamvalley stables were on the yard, getting ready for the workout which were starting this morning. One by one the jockeys were in the office. Derek was really pissed off at the of it as he hated mornings and was no mood to battle with his horse. Right everyone. It that time of year, that Dreamvalley Stables would be working hard. The unicorn horn series are here again. Some of our horses have been through this race before. Let's improve and do better this year. The jockeys all cheered. Right we are starting early this season. You would all come out one by one, so don't go anywhere. He said and left.
Skye walk onto the yard and Leo was waiting for her. Right Skye, there are four entries and that includes us. I am pretty sure Chocolate would bring her first win for the season for us, since she is great horse and loves to run. The favourite so far is the grade one stallion Executioner's Apprentice. Now this grey stallion have beated her before by a nose, and he is a pecerder. We have known him to become late, and pushing the other horses to a win. Axis Mundae is also a sneaky contender and we already know these two hate each other. Chocolate have won and lost to her before. She tends to be a closer, like Chocolate, so she is another horse which we have to watch and make sure she don't over take us. Once Chocolate have her in her sights, she wouldn't give up, so keep hold of her and hang her back, until the final turning ok. Lastly the last entry is a chestnut stallion called Firebird, this stallion could lead all the way, so just keep an eye on him Once the talk was over, Skye walked to Chocolate and Leo gave her a leg up. Remember Chocolate is a closer, she loves to hug the rail in the beginning. Keep her in last position until the sixth furlong, and begin to ask her to speed up. Then at the final furlong, allow her to make her move and encouarge her speed up. She have done this couple of times, so this would be just a breeze for her. Skye nodded her head and kept this method in her mind and and headed to the track.
Skye was nervous as this was one of the major races. This might be the cream mare's last season as she was now five years old. There is a chance she would still be racing though, as Native Gold was still running despite being six years old. Winning the breeder's cup was a huge achievement, and then winning the Best Grade Two was another of her goals. The next one would be to win the norimation to be The Horse of the Year. Her foals would be great champions, and breeding from outside studs would be piling up, that's what we were aiming for with this mare. Chocolate was calm as she cantered on the turf, loving it and knew what she was training for. You are great horse Chocolate, I am glad to be riding you girl, Skye spoke to her and stroked her neck. Chocolate nickered enjoyed the comforts the girl gave her. Skye clicked her tongue again, and Chocolate cantered a little faster, breezing to warm her muscles up and get them ready for the hard work. The bird were singing, as the sky was starting to light up. The sun was beginning to creep through the hidden mountains. It was a smart move for Leo, fior them to practice early, especially what happened to their stable lately. Soon enough the muscles were ready for the big test. Ready to work now girl? Bobbing her head up and down, she chuckled. Turning her around as they weren't doing the gates, Skye knew she was ok with them and it wasn't an issue. Leo arranged for a safety tape to be used, when it went down Chocolate broke cleanly like she did in the gates. Immediately Skye had her settled into four position, with a small the race tends to be faster, so Skye kept this mind, and allowed the filly to speed a little, but not to much she didn't have anything left.
Skye kept the mare in the reasonable pace and she was thinking the chestnut colt and possible the grey stallion out in front of the lead. The seventh furlong was beginning to come, and Skye took Chocolate away from the rail, and pushed her a little more, and Chocolate responded and increased her speed. Good girl Chocolate she spoke to her, and Chocolate nickered back. Skye allowed the mare to creep up more, and her position was now second as the field was small. The final turning came and she let her run loose, GO! She yelled and the mare began to make her move towards the front. The grass was being ripped out from the ground, and flying in the air as her hooves dug into the soil faster and more violently. Leo timed them and was shocked that the mare was still going. Go girl, she yelled more and like magic more speed was released from the mare's limbs and she was in front and kept on going. Then the line was crossed and if it was a actual race, she would have left four lengths between her and the other horse.
Pulling her up slowly Chocolate slowly transited into a trot again. Skye stroked her neck more as she was proud of her. Good girl. You are amazing animal she then jumped down and led her back to here Leo was, and handed her to the grooms. So how did we do? Leo showed her the clock, she was faster when she ran for the Unicorn last year. OMG she really ran that fast? Leo nodded. With a small field you did the right thing, she is going to a wild card in the field I think. But I have a feeling she have the chance of beating those favourites. Go and get something to drink, there still work to do Skye nodded and left to get some needed rest.
