INNOCENT PASSION AND KRYSTAL YHATE
ANNA'S PRINCESS CUP WORKOUT
Big things awaited the two year old daughter of Passionate Class and Little Miss Innocent. This next race was the deciding one for the bay who had shown so much talent in such a little amount of time. She had placed third in her first race, but ever since then had shown a talent for the sprints. Six furlongs, though at the edge of her range, appeared to be the distance she preferred to run at, and she had definitely been a star. Winner of three races already after a scant two months of full racing, she was ahead of all the others in her division, win wise, and was going for grade four in her very next race, the Princess Cup, against three other talented fillies, some of which were older than her.
After winning the Mermaid Cup in the first week of February, Krystal had been advised to rest the young filly. They had had a month off since then and were going to come back in style at the Princess Cup this week. The race was run over eight furlongs on the turf and would be against grade five and grade four fillies. It would be the toughest race Anna had run yet. She was facing older horses who were likely of a higher grade than her. However, the bay had solid talent, and Krystal would not have been as excited about the filly's prospects or as rock solidly confident as she currently was if that had not been the case. Anna had an insatiable need to compete which appeared to manifest itself in each race she ran in. It was this need to compete and win that had led to her past three wins. If they extended this win streak to four, they'd become grade fours. If they extended this win streak to five, they'd become Wire Finish Cup Juvenile Sprint champions. The title of champion could only be bestowed upon those that earned it, and Anna was certainly earning it.
Krystal had swung into the saddle and was warming up by five am, as previously discussed with Amber. It had been decided to work the filly alone today. She had been working alone for a little bit in an attempt to get her to be more manageable. A month of no races had made Anna's competitive desire rage and become unlike anything they had had to deal with with her so far. She had become unmanageable and only a workout with another horse three times a week was enough to temper her attitude. Anna had gotten a taste of the track and she loved it. The air seemed to fuel her like no grain could, and she always appeared to be desiring to inhale more of it. She had actually been stabled at the GHF track instead of the home track just because she seemed to need the activity more than the peace, and she had worked well since her third win. Now, to ascend...
The only other horse their age in the field was Nightshade. The black filly had lines that screamed for the turf sprints and she certainly had talent. She had raced five times to win twice and place second three times. She was the horse that, if nothing else, Krystal wanted to defeat. Nightshade would be a tough competitor and had worked just as hard as they had to achieve her spot. They would need to be on her toes around her. She was the one that had won the maiden race they had placed third in. There was no doubt Anna would remember the filly she had lost to in her very first race. Krystal had done her research and discovered that the filly preferred the closer position. They'd be looking out for her from behind in the race. The other two entries were Feline Frenzy and Spitting Image. To Krystal, Image was more likely to win the race. She had the consistency and she had the experience. Of course, she hadn't really been seen on the track this year though. The same could be said for Feline Frenzy. The competitive filly was inconsistent though, and Krystal harbored secret hopes of defeating them and stealing second. Either way, they did stand a chance of winning this race. Frenzy would be in the lead and Spitting Image would probably be somewhere off their flank. If they paced the race right they could shoot past Frenzy and maintain a winning margin.
Anna hated being far from the action. Even now she pulled impatiently at the reins, demanding to be let out and into the speed where she could run at will and ahead of the other horses working on the track. She wanted to go, and her eyes gleamed with eagerness. Krystal tried her best not to willfully let the filly go. She loved to ride the Little Miss Innocent daughter. They both loved to be right behind the main speed. They both loved the turf track and the springy feel of it as they galloped over it. They loved speed, and as Anna gave Krystal more speed Krystal wanted more speed from Anna. It was a relationship fostered since birth, when Krystal had taken a liking to the foal and then broken her in as a yearling. Krystal loved the filly's determination and her love of a good fight. It was something Krystal loved to. Relating to her mount as she had, it wasn't hard to discover why Krystal loved her so much.
Oh, for the speed. Anna was a firecracker. They cantered their warm up and then began to gallop. With no partner to accompany them, Anna looked at all the other horses galloping and declared them her rivals. She sought to catch up to them. Her eyes would become sharp like those of a hunter's as she sought this goal. And when Krystal finally released her it was to be embraced by sudden speed, sudden acceleration. The filly brought her speed to a new level as she sought something more. She looked for what she wanted and just kept on plowing. Now they were moving, the whirlwind Krystal had been waiting for, the desire she loved to feel from the filly that she herself felt. As one they flew, passionately pounding the springy turf track, and when they slowed down it was with the knowledge that they were in this to win it. They were going to make grade four. They could do this. Their passion could not be denied.
