FLASHY WINGS AND HENNA TURATH
TDI LIVE THIS LIE AND AMBER BLACK
FIRE DANCER AND KRYSTAL YHATE
STABLE FACE OFF WORKOUTS
As soon as she got to the stable that morning Henna Turath had gone to Flashy Wings. The bay four year old was the picture of great conformation and form. He had only lost once this year, in the Starry Night Stakes, to Sunset Crusade. It was almost all right to lose to the talented stallion. Almost. In all truth, Henna just hated Cruz and wanted to pulverize the stallion in the Stable Face Off. She wanted to get him to taste his place in second once again. She and Flash had been doing too amazingly this season to not deserve this win. Not to mention she had worked hard with him as well as with others to get them to where they were. Their latest race had been last week, so they would be going lightly today. Nothing too tough, she hoped, but Amber was ultimately the decision maker on this.
Amber and Krystal had just gotten back from working Kiss and Ode when they discovered Henna grooming Flash adoringly in the barn. They grinned at her, exchanging their pleasantries, before bustling off to get their own mounts. Amber returned with Falsehood, the gray five year old holding his head high with arrogance and eyes glowing with dominating power. The stallion had actually won the Wire Finish Cup Dirt, a super major race, and Amber had been stoked with the victory. They had lost and come second just last week, but oh well, a major race was to their names and they only needed one more win to grade one, the status Amber had desired for her stallion since the day she had won him against a horde of others at that weanling sale hosted by Tropicana Dreams Inc.
The horse Krystal led was the daughter of Native Flame and On To Dancing. Fire Dancer held her head up imperiously, with a royal bearing that commanded nothing less than respect from those around her. She had last raced three weeks ago for a win at The Wire and was in pretty okay form for her. She had never been a major superstar on the track but she was one win away from grade three. Perhaps attaining that new status would help them out a bit? Fire was exuding the confidence that came from a recent trip to the winners' circle as she was cross tied and then quickly groomed. The races were upon them again and the three horses were to be worked. Amber had decided on a simple mile long gallop, no breezing or hard runs. They were all in good form and just needed maintenance.
Fire's race bragged some serious speed. Strictly Royal, blazing hot Lady Ophelia and talented Firebird would be going at it as front runners, probably setting quick first fractions. The grand Knight Rousseau would be sitting prettily behind them, pressing them on. Aztareal and Fire herself would be in the pack behind them, with Make A Dash at their tails. Overall, the race would set up well for Fire if the pace was fast and the road to the front was clear. The tall filly had monstrous strides from her sire and a will to win from both sides of her pedigree. She wanted to taste victory and grade three as much as Krystal did. She had always worked Fire hard for limited results. Perhaps this year they wouldn't have such bad luck.
Falsehood's and Flash's race was a race of little differences. It bragged of speed with horses begging for more speed. Henna had her eyes on Sunset Crusade, while Amber just had her eyes on top three. Sunset Crusade, Mystical Melody and Falsehood would all be on the lead. Euphorion, Silverianna and Flash would be just behind them, pressuring the entire time. The pace would be unbelievable up there. From riding her before, Amber knew that Mel had unbelievable reserves of energy and could stay up there. She knew Cruz would just be cruising as well. Falsehood could struggle the most up there, and that was why she was going to try and be conservative when running him. Flash would just run his usual thing, with his agemates just alongside. It could play to be an interesting race with an unexpected winner for sure.
Let's rock and roll guys. Eight furlongs, nothing fancy, just galloping Amber instructed. Her jockeys nodded and followed her out of the barn. They mounted up and went for the dirt track, stepping on and picking up a canter immediately. Falsehood strode with the arrogance of a Triple Crown winner. Flash acted eager and ready to go, pulling the entire time on Henna's hands. Fire just acted above it all, but her eyes held the intelligence that shown out here on this track. They were ready to run and eager to go. Flash was goaded on a little by Henna, who just wanted to obliterate something so she could stop thinking about beating Cruz for a little bit.
Their canters soon lapsed into gallops. Flash had the flashiest looking gallop. He rode like a machine, each stride fluid and never tiring. Fire and Falsehood both galloped with power and eyes on the prize ahead. They loved nothing more than open track in front of their hooves and they would get it if their riders had anything to say about it. It was difficult to go easy when every horse riding just wanted to take it on the dirt today. They were all raring to go and unwilling to wait as long as they had to to get down to racing. Just galloping was no longer enough. Yet they stuck to the pace as close as they could, and when pulled up were breathing easily and sweating just a bit.
Loosened up and ready, they were prepared to shoot for the moon.
