[Alluring Assault] & Nick Landing - Prep For Queen Cup
The fourth place finish had been unexpected to say the least, but they were making the best of the situation. In all honesty, Nick was glad that the mare hadn't won...this loss would help Allure to keep her edge. She had been put out to say the least coming in 4th in a race she thought she should have won.
So here they were, in prep for the Queen Cup and the competition looked to be largely coming from Star Thoroughbreds...Ahhh. Star Thoroughbreds. They were like a fine oiled and tuned machine, Nick was hoping that maybe he and his bay wonder could throw a wrench into their plans.
One thing Allure had this year was desire. It was as if she knew this was her last year of racing and boy was she wanting to make a lasting impression and she had been doing just that right up until her 4th place finish. Nick knew that the mare simply needed some refocusing. There were some big names in this race, mainly one of them being Seraphim, out of Intrepid's own Requiem. The mare had just come off a win in the Stable Face Off and would be leading the charge come race day. Running behind Seraphim would be Strike a Pose, then the leased White Chocolate and bringing up the rear would be Allure. Nick was glad that there wouldn't be a lot of competition in the back, but knew that he and Allure wold need to being their top game and be careful that the Star Thoroughbred jockeys didn't team up against them and block them out.
Allure was warmed up and primed, rearing to go and Nick just had to pause and simply admire the mare...yes this year was going to be different for the bay. They charged down the stretch and as they ran, Nick felt the mare...her pace, her speed, her drive...her feel. She was spot on and running smooth.
He felt the powerful action of her haunches as Nick gradually fed more and more rein to his mount. With eagerness and desire she ate up the turf. Like her sire before her...she was headed to do great things on the turf and live up to the legacy he'd left her. She was a queen of the turf in every sense and she was on a mission to prove it. Nick was simply along for the ride.
