BORN TO IMPRESS AND NATURE'S DREAM WORK FOR THE MAGIC MILLIONS COLTS DIRT
The Magic Millions two year old stakes races were running this weekend, and the pair of colts could not be more ready for it. Born To Impress had placed second in his most recent race, and was definitely due to win for the third time. Nature's Dream had won his most recent race, and was more confident for it. Both colts were fresh and ready, having last raced three weeks ago. But only one of them could win, because they were due to run in the same race - the Magic Millions Colts Dirt, ten furlongs on dirt for two year old colts only.
Beginning with a trot to warm up, Marissa riding Impress and Stella riding Dream, the pair discussed the field. King's Ransom of Bowen Acres was starting from gate one. It would be his first race, and not much was known about the colt. A Royal Legacy was next. He was a Merry Bay King colt, owned by Akita Rose Stables but recently let to Stride Of Perfection Stables. It would be his first race with them, so it would be interesting to see how he performed. His current record was 4-0-0-2.
Next was a colt by the name of Red Herring. He was from Witch Creek Stables, and not much was known about him other than he had won his first race in the third week of March. Then there was their two in gate four and five. Rolling her eyes as Impress gave a toss of his head accompanied by a kick of his heels as they switched to canter, Marissa turned to Stella. What do you think of our chances? She asked.
Stella didn't really have to think. A Royal Legacy has probably improved alot with SOPS, Red Herring won his first race so we know he's got class, and King's Ransom could turn out to be a total superstar. But I think we have a good chance of taking out the top two spots. She replied with a smile. Marissa grinned back in agreement. Born To Impress was out of Born To Fly and by Impressario, and had a record of 4-2-1-1. He was most likely going to be the race favourite. Nature's Dream was by The Natural and out of Dare To Dream, with a record of 4-1-0-2. Considering his last start resulted in a win, he could possibly go in second favourite. They cantered on in silence for a bit, each considering how the race could play out.
Kings Ransom, of course, was an unknown. Without him having raced before, they had no way of knowing his preferred race position. A Royal Legacy had shown aptitude for closing. Red Herring had run as a preceder in his only race. Born To Impress also liked the stalker position, but he had the advantage of versatility. Nature's Dream liked to run mid pack. All in all, if King's Ransom wasn't a front runner, Born To Impress would probably step up and lead if Red Herring didn't. Then it would be Red Herring, Nature's Dream, and A Royal Legacy. King's Ransom could run anywhere.
The two thoroughbreds burst into gallop on cue. They were just doing an easy six furlong gallop today, so they would be fired up and competitive as always on race day. Their riders held them side by side, but the colts were both fighting for more speed. Marissa stayed low to Born To Impress's withers, trying to be as aerodynamic as possible for the colt.
Stella did the same for Dream, ensuring she still had control of him. He could be unpredictable, and he might decide to run for it once they finished the turn. And of course, he did. Stella had to restrict him hard to keep him at Impress's pace. The other colt was also trying to take the bit and run. The gallop ended in less than two minutes. They'd only been galloping at a slowish pace, or it would have been over in just over a minute. Probably 1.15. The chestnut colt and the black colt slowed to canter, reluctantly, after fighting to keep going, and faster. They were ready for the Magic Millions
