GAMBLE ON PEACE
Ridden by
Chris Stevens
(Purple Rose Stakes / May week 1)
[/size]It was time for another race and the Purple Rose Stakes were coming up in the first week of May and it was time to workout the chestnut colt who was Grade 5 placing 2nd at JENESAISQUOI DERBY at The Wire in April. Chris Stevens was his jockey and the two had bonded fondly ever since the colt came to the stables. The colt was a cranky 3 year old colt and when he was not on the track he wanted nothing but to cause some trouble biting anyone that came near him. On the track, he was focused on the race and his competitors.
The colt was a closer which meant he liked to stay behind the pack the first of the race. He was a sprinter after all and liked to start from behind and worked his way forward. Chris was already on the colts back ready for the run. He grabbed a hold of the reins slowly walking him towards the track seeing it was empty and quiet. That meant his running would echo throughout the track and all those who came in later would hear the colt's pounding. Coming to the gate Chris took ready. "We can do this Gambler." Chris said as the bell sounded and the colt was off sprinting away.
He ran 5-8 furlongs and was best dirt tracks so he would train hard and when the race came Chris would pray for the best. Coming along the back stretch Gamble switched gears and paced faster as if to head straight towards the front. Chris held on for dear life as he laughed to himself as the colt ran his hardest. He was a 3 year old and was still young who loved to run it was what he was bred to do.
Coming along the last turn Chris made another gesture and Gambler gave him more pacing as fast as he could to get to the finish. The colt bit into the bit in his mouth his ears perked back expanding his feet from each other. This grade 5 sprinter was well prepared for this race or will be. His breathing was nice and steady as he crossed the finish line raising his head as his jockey Chris rose his arm as a celebration. "Way to go Gamble that was a fast one." He spoke to the colt rubbing his upper neck as a praise for his gallop.
Coming to a halt Gamble pounded his front left hoof calming down his nerve after a sprint run. Chris slid off his back pulling the reins forward to take the chestnut colt back to the stables. There was still a lot of miles left on the colt and Chris would go all out to see this Thoroughbred win big someday. Purple Rose Stakes was in for a surprise or so Chris was praying it to be.
