SEA SIREN ridden by Carlos Sanchez
May Maiden Dirt week 2 Workout.
[/size]May was on its way and Sea Siren was to enter the May Maiden's week two dirt track. The colt still needed practice he came in 5th place at the Magic Millions Colts Turf this month. He seemed to be lazy and Carlos would make sure the colt would be ready for the upcoming race. Coming onto the track the jockey unloaded Siren off the trailer. He first brushed the colt down letting him feel that he cared for the colt's well being. Carlos had bonded with Siren like the other horses he rode on the stables.
Grabbing the saddle he placed it on the bay colts back tightening it up so the saddle fit just right and did not cause any harm to Siren. Getting on the back of the colt Carlos grabbed the reins and headed onto the track. The colt had a big breakfast this morning and had a few hours to digest it off and now it was time for him to run it off. The colt seemed lazy but, he had speed. He was still new to the track and came in 5th at the Magic Millions Colt's turf. He ran great on both turf and dirt tracks so he was capable for both. He ran 8-11 furlongs and was a closer on the tracks.
Carlos was well aware of what colt he was riding and needed to get him entered into more races. Angela, the head handler at Bowen Acres Stables came with the two as well as she stood at the side of the rail looking at Carlos who was now on Sea Siren's back. "Set him free during the last furlong and don't push him too hard he's a racehorse not a machine he was born to run." She said handing him his helmet then biting into an apple after. "I will don't worry." Carlos said then made a clicking sound in his mouth wiggling the reins for the colt to walk as the two headed towards the start.
The colt then took off like a speeding bullet after the bell had rang remaining in a steady pace seemingly from behind as others were on the track. The colt seemed to gain a gear during the first few furlongs of his race and Carlos relaxed on the horses back holding onto the reins the breathing of Siren was hasty but normal as this workout seemed longer then most. Siren came along the back stretch with a much faster pace keeping his speed and stamina a normal fast gallop until the last turn as Carlos then gripped the reins tighter. "Alright boy let's go!" He said out loud showing the colt the whip giving Siren a sign to run his race as fast as he could.
On the last stretch Siren's pace was faster as he passed the line of the finish with his tail raised as if the thoroughbred was happy which he was. Carlos pulled the colt to a stop as he loosened up the reins and had the colt then trot over back over to the side of the track where Angela stood. "I say that was a good run he ran pretty good and sped up on the back stretch all on his own." He said taking off his helmet. "Well, he still has ways to go but, with this race coming up he will run his heart out." Angela said as she then pointed Carlos to take the colt back to the stables so they could rest him til race day.
