Wannabe Hero & Tanya Stratt
From humble beginnings, Hero had started to develop into something great. As a two year old he hadn't really had much of a name on the track until he had been able to shine in the Breeder's Cup following some careful preparation but since then he had been growing at an alarming rate. Having started the season at Grade Five, he was already Grade Three and looked to be on the right path to start claiming more wins. In fact, he had only lost in one race so far this year and that had been in the Boy's Festival when he had placed behind an older horse.
Still, in some ways the placing had done Hero some good. The colt had been growing cocky, in a way. He had seemed to think he was untouchable and while his jockey had understood this not to be true she could not seem to get him to understand. That second place had, however, and he had become more intense as a result. He'd had a taste of what it was to be a successful horse, and he longed for more. To add to this, the horse he had been beaten by was in his next race and there was no doubt that Hero would remember him. There was no doubt that he would be fighting to show the other horse just who was superior.
The Star Festival was a prestigious race for turf sprinters, one of those that you worked towards, but until recently Hero had not raced much on the turf. In fact, it was only recently that he had improved enough to be entered on it in a field that was anything near competitive. But Tanya had pushed for this chance, she wanted Hero to shine as brightly as she could and she was sure he could do something in the Star Festival. In the end, Matthias had decided to give in to the enthusiastic jockey's wishes and gone ahead and entered him.
The black colt was in good form and strong spirits. He had been seen pulling his usual stunt of racing around in the pasture several days ago and so they knew that he had recovered from his defeat. Since then, he had been ready to go, on his toes and pushing for a challenge. He had charged at the door every time a handler or groom entered his stable, had pranced around when being led and showed off at every chance.
