A Dominating Start

The sun was barely rising over the mountains as Victoria Lansing rode Digger out onto the wide turf oval called Foxbar Glenn. The black colt was ready, he pranced in place as he waited for Tori's command. She leaned down to give him a quick pat on the neck. "Here we go boy" she said as she gathered the reins. She urged him into a collected canter. She knew he loved the distance. She took a moment to glance around them.

Roxy recently bought the farm and did some major remodeling. She brought life back into the old, rundown estate. Then, called it Rhinestone. It was a diamond in the rough and Roxy certainly made it back into the diamond farm it once was. Tori fell in love with the surroundings. A smile spread across her face. All of a sudden a loud snort snapped her back to reality. Digger was ready to work. "Sorry Dig" she whispered. She focused on the mount beneath her. He was breathing steady and picked up the pace a little. She gathered him back up. She could feel the powerhouse inside him, just ready to explode. They cantered down the stretch. As the neared the mile marker, she knew she wanted to let him go on his own. She would wait till she could get in a nice 7 furlong workout, just to stretch his legs.

Digger got excited. The adrenaline started pumping. He knew it was soon time for him to open up and fly around the track. They rounded the corner. Tori was ready and so was he. "Now!" she called and he burst into a blinding amount of speed. Every muscle of his worked them down the track. Tori tried pulling him back a little, but it was no use. Digger was ready to run. They flew around the final turn. Roxy was standing at the rail with a stopwatch in her hands. "That's it boy. Keep going" Tori said. Digger obeyed. He flashed down the stretch. Not too soon afterwards Tori slowed him down to a trot to cool him out. She patted him on the neck. "You're an amazing horse" she said. He snorted in response.

"That was a great run" Roxy said as they reach her. Roxy grabbed the bridle as Tori dismounted. "He was amazing. He's so ready to run" Tori said. Roxy giggled, "More like fly, you mean." "Yea, true." Tori took her tack off and walked back to the barn with them. She was very impressed with Digger's first workout. He was a great horse. She couldn't wait to ride him in his first race. They were a great team.
