January Workout
Ben had grown a little from last year and a little more mature and yet he was still his old stubborn self. Chris was having a small problem getting him out of the stables after he was having a rough morning luckily for carrots and a little brawl of ring around the rosy, Chris cooled him off by walking him around before placing the saddle on his back. "Why make a fuss now Ben? You love to run." He said as the bay colt pounded his hooves down on the floor as if to argue and whine. The two shared a bond and everyone knew it even the other stables could tell that Chris Ben were close.
Ben was a little feisty today and now it seemed his temper was predictable in races. Chris would still work him today as he was being joined by two others with great caliber. Coming close behind was Lawrence and Bane, the young colt with a competitive streak and Chris started to think that Ben knew he would not be alone on this workout. After Lawrence and Bane was Carlos Sanchez who rode the Radiance son Radiation Therapy. All three colts came from splendid lines and Ben was a teacher here and he hated it. "Okay I think we should keep them at a distance at least until we are on the track." Chris said patting Ben's neck to sooth him.
Bane was no fool either he was not apart of Ben's popular clan and Lawrence was still getting him to focus on the track and not the others around him. Radiation Therapy was a the sweet one of this group and he was quiet approaching his barn mates. "Oh relax Chris we know all about Ben's attitude's we hear them every night. Just like his little sister in the yearling barn." Lawrence said and Carlos nodded to agree. All three horses approached the track and when they gave the right away the horses were off with Bane pulling to the lead immediately and Radiation going in after and Ben closing behind them.
All three horses were distance runners 9-12 furlongs two of which favored both tracks of dirt and turf while Radiation only preferred dirt. Bane won his first juvenile race and ran through and through straight to the wire. Radiation began to a slow as they came to the stretch and Ben finally grew tired of being in the back end to long. With a change of pace Ben started to move forward coming along the ride side of Radiation Therapy where Carlos eased his colt with a steady stride and at the right moment Radiation began to pull away from the four year old where he then rushed to Bane's hind and the two fought til the last turn.
Ben was silent coming from the back and when he felt the time was right he pushed away with his back legs and came in through the middle of the two younger colts. Lawrence looked back to see the other two closing in. "Not this time." He said as he asked Bane for one more stride and he did just that. The front runner was on fire however Lawrence would not push him this workout he was set to race this week in the Quick Start Cup alongside Radiation Therapy and Star Thoroughbred's Dysphoria. Dysphoria had the advantage and the experience this race as did Radiation Therapy. Bane was the rookie in this step of the race.
GS SuperCharged was set to race in week three in the Green Horse Dirt where the entrants so far were Wish Upon a Star and well known Van Guard. Ben came across these horses once before and will gladly fight for the win again. Radiation and Ben were neck and neck before then Bane and Ben passed Radiation with a minor attitude. Ben had saved his strength and would push Bane faster and faster. Lawrence had started a bond with Bane as he shared plenty of moods as his sire had. Lawrence would not give up on this horse. Ben passed Bane by a nose and Radiation just by a nose behind Bane.
This workout was the largest Nature Blues had ever done and it seemed very fun and competitive. Ben had come to a steady slow as he still pounded the ground out of anger and frustration. Bane pranced along keeping his self away from the Admiral's Revenge colt. Radiation Therapy didn't budge from the exit until they all left the track to get rested for the races ahead.
