Katie Blagdon and Celestia
Celeste's ears flickered whilst she stood, gazing over the dirt surface that lay before her. The filly had been hand-reared, and her relationship with her two owners, Chantelle and Katie was impeccable. The chestnut filly stood at 15.1 currently, but she would grow a little bit more, merely because she was bum high. The year of training had proven very successful for Celeste so far. She was backed at the beginning of the year, broken in, and she had been breezing down the tracks for the past month and a half, and now it was time for the real work to begin. Katie was very impressed with Celestes work so far, she has improved constantly and she wasn't showing any signs of slowing down - infact, she could only get quicker. Her aim was the Triple Tiara in a couple of years time, if her two year old season went good enough. The filly definitely hadn't let anybody down yet, but with the way she was going, she was never going to let anybody down. She had never put a foot wrong.
Katie sat aboard the filly as she was walked out onto the soft springy dirt surface. She looked fantastic. Celeste snorted and looked around, tail raised slightly as the mist from the summer air blew from her nose. Chantelle's boots hit the floor emerging from the passage way to stand at the entrance to the track. The filly's ears pricked right up and she turned her head slightly to see Chantelle stood there. "Hello beautiful girl," Katie, alarmed by the words turned and looked at Chantelle. "Who? Me? Think you need to get your eyes tested, sis!" She said with a slightly sarcastic tone to her voice. Chantelle tried her hardest to stifle the laughter but it wasn't to work. Katie began to snigger and Celeste snorted her nose and nickered, almost like she was joining in with the laughter from the two sisters.
After the sisters finished with the giggles, Celeste let out a whinny. "Thinks she wants to have a run," Chantelle said to Katie. Nodding, Katie smiled and took a tighter hold on the reins. "Just breeze her four furlongs, she'll love it." Another nicker came from Celeste, it was almost like she knew it was time to take to the track and show off. Katie squeezed her heels into the fillys sides and she set off at a quick paced walk before breaking into a steady trot. Her ears pricked and she snorted, dropping her head into a nice outline and trotting effortlessly across the surface. With a click from Katie, the filly sprung into an effortless canter on the correct lead as they approached the back stretch towards the six furlong post. She would let the filly canter before breezing her over the four furlongs as she was asked.
As they approached the five furlong post, Katie began to ask the filly for a bit more speed. She was full of speed and stamina, and she was fantastic in every way - hense why Katie and Chantelle loved her so much. "Come on then princess, time to do what we do best..." She let her go just as the four furlong mark hit. The filly's ears pricked right up and she breezed perfectly over the surface. Chantelle stood at the stand by the wire, she watched the filly though her binoculars passing the four furlong mark. She had a bit more improving to do before she was ready to hit the tracks the following season. August approached quickly and if she was ready for it, she would go for the maiden races in January. There was no doubt she would be. Chantelle bit her lip, "Go for it Celeste, you're gonna be a star." And there was no doubting that.
The filly breezed round the bend at a gallop, she was certainly at her best for a rising two year old filly. Katie niggled at the reins to speed her up slightly. The filly picked up and her long strides for a filly carried her over the quick dirt surface. Down the home straight, Katie loosened her grip and let Celeste do the work. She carried her perfectly down the straight and took her over the wire. Pulling up, Katie gave her a huge pat on the neck. "Well done sweetie," she said, wondering what the next season would bring. Cooling her off, Katie took her back to Chantelle, who stood smiling. "Even if she doesn't do well next season, she will always be a champion in our eyes." Katie grinned and nodded, before jumping off and leading the filly to where she would be hosed off.
