Lainey brought the gray filly out onto the track, morning fog casting an eerie glow to everything around them. Star's breath came out in even puffs, as she walked along the outside rail. Her owner had said to run her 6 furlongs today. "C'mon girl, get up!" The excersise rider pushed her forward into a trot, and the filly threw up her head in protest, but moved into a steady trot anyways.
Trotting her for a couple of minutes, Lainey asked the filly to canter. Star easily rocked into a canter, and the rider lifted herself off her back. Cantering a lap before bringing her down to a trot, she met the owner at the rail. "Now remember, 6 furlongs only. We want to see how well she's progressing. You can start anytime." Lainey smiled and nodded. "You got it, boss." Turning the filly's head the other way, she broke into a canter, the horse already knowing what was coming next. "Let's go, Star. Show 'em what you got!" Star broke into a gallop, mane and tail flying behind her. The horse needed no encouragement from Lainey, breezing past other horses without a problem. Lainey could hear Star's even breathing, as they passed the wire. The gallop only lasted a minute, but it was probably the fastest minute Star had ever done. Slowly bringing the filly back, she trotted her out, and walked her. "Good girl, Star." Lainey patted her sweaty neck, walking her back to the stalls. "Great run Lainey! The filly looked better than ever." She heard a voice and turned her head, smiling at the owner. "Of course! She felt amazing!"
