Paradise Island To Attempt Youth Series

You know the name. Paradise Island is one of the best dirt racers in the current batch of two year olds and she has been having quite the impact. Already a Grade Four, her next goal is going to be no small task. In an exclusive interview with her training, Matthias Lanning, we were able to discover what the stable has planned for the flash two-year-old.

"Sonja is a powerful racehorse." He told us, as if we didn't already know this, "As such, our hopes for her are high. Her next goal will be the Youth Challenge Series, starting with the Just A Trot Futurity. After that, she will head for the Breeder's Cup." There is no denying that this is an ambitious plan, but if it works out the illustrious filly could be the first to win all three legs of the series which runs over seven to ten furlongs on dirt for two year olds.

"We have no doubt that Sonja will face some tough competition in her quest for the series, however we also know that Sonja tends to handle such challenges well. We have big plans for her next year and I am sure it is not going to surprise you that she will be heading for the Triple Tiara next year."

Will the two year be the first to take the Youth Challenge Series?

Tanya Stratt: Sonja will not be headed for the Crown as she cannot handle twelve furlongs. Instead, she will be headed to the Tiara.

Tanya Stratt: I think the question begging to be asked here is where are you sending Phantie for the Breeders Cup?

Krystal Yhate says: Phantie thinks she's a colt. We're going to the Juvenile!

And in an update, the SOPS entries for the majority of the Youth Challenge series will be Forbidden To Fly and Lynara's Kingdom. Phantie may appear in the last leg if it is nine furlongs long, taking the place of Lynara. Sorry to disappoint xD

Tanya Stratt: The final decision has yet to be made with Sonja, but it is possible she might go into the Juvenile or the Juvenile Fillies. The choice is really Matthias' but if it's the Juvenile don't expect an easy race.

Alice Kacey: Juvenile will be a toughie, especially with Forbidden to fly and Lynara's Kingdom. Quick question Krystal, is Jayde going to the Juvenile Turf Sprint? :-)

Jacey Leigh: We've decided to give Danny a shot against the big boys in the Juvenile Turf! He could do well, being the son of Grand Silence. He's been racing well lately. :-)

Krystal Yhate says: Fly will probably also go to the Juvenile, but that's up to Henna, and who knows how she is these days. Last I heard, Amber was talking about the Juvenile Sprint for Lynara. We'll have to wait and see. I know for sure that Fiery Touch will be making an appearance at the Juvenile Fillies. And though Henna is not currently available for comment, I would say Jayde is going to the Juvenile Turf Sprint. It's right up her alley!

Amber Black says: Dawn Of Silence? Yes, he definitely has the potential, being by my dear Grand Silence. Don't forget, his half brother Silent Fury did win two legs of the Turf Triple Crown this year. He definitely has the potential to do well in the Juvenile Turf!
