Judging Points, Entry fees and Rewards

We can't keep things running if people don't judge. No one hardly puts their name down to judge anymore when entering, so I'm proposing something to change that. Basically, it's a points system. If you judge, you will earn so many points to redeem for a reward when you have enough. Points are not only spent on rewards, but also on entry fees. This will encourage everyone to judge so it's not always the same people over and over again. It's like having currency. I'm looking into using a plugin for it that will include a bank and note in mini profile.. in fact, instead of points, why not make it money? Also TW would be included in this, but the system would only be used here with the use of a thread to add/subtract points for judging and entering on TW.

Any ideas, comments, opinions?

Could you elaborate on this entry fee idea? It could prove problematic for bigger stables, such as you and me, who tend to enter every race instead of judging all the time.

I like the idea of getting points to redeem for rewards through judging. It's not a bad idea...what does everybody else think?

I thought maybe 50 points/$ for each race a person judges and 5 points entry fee for normal races, 10 points for HOTY* races. We could even have prize money from it. And a small amount of points could be earned from posting as well. Prizes would probably be 1000 points for easy, 2500 for medium and 5000 for hard. But we could see how it works before setting all this in stone.. I just think that there needs to be some motivation to help out with the judging because it's the same people over and over judging these two horse fields that take two minutes. They should be rewarded but they're not, so I just think that needs to change.

Nothing has been judged in two days now despite us practically begging people to judge. There needs to be consequences and rewards, to be quite frank. No judging = no entering, no rewards. I'm sick of waiting for TW to catch up too. GHF would probably be finished with the TC by now if it wasn't for TW, and it's driving me insane. I'm not a staff member on there so I don't feel comfortable closing races. But if no one really steps up and keeps things going there, I will. And next year if Cav's still not around, I don't want TW sharing GHF's horses and calendar and whatever else anymore. It's a huge, huge pain to have to wait all the time.

I am stepping up and trying to keep things going there. But there is little you can do when you can tell people to do things, enter races yourself and then wait for those people to jump on and judge some races. That's the only problem here - races. There is nothing else TW related that is a problem.

At this point, I'm adopting the scratch-and-judge approach.

This system does have potential...but it could also be a pain, seeing as these points would need to be manually added.

You know, if you stopped getting so angry (and yes, that is coming from Dante, the guy known for the 1,000 word essays and bluster) you might find a lot more people are motivated. Instituting a punishment, which is what I see points as, is going to throw people away. Frosty is right as well, it will be a lot of work.

I admit. I have not been very active. There are real life reasons for that. There is also the fact every time I come on, someone is posting in all bold and caps in the cbox and quite frankly that makes me click that lovely "x".

I know whatever I say will inevitably be shot down, but I'll say it anyways. If you do this, you better have your math spot-on, or you'll end up in the same predicament. Race entry fees would also have to mean new members get a lot of points from the start, or they will go quite some time without entering, as they may not be used to SIM and may not want to judge (and potentially get screamed at, as I have also noticed happening) right away since they might misjudge or oversee something or who-knows-what.

I was going to scratch Silverianna and judge that last race if it wasn't done today. Can you keep TW on the same schedule as GHF? If you want, I will close races there when I close them here. You would just need to say when they close and kinda give me permission I guess to close them.

New members would not be expected to judge right away. They would be given enough starting points/money so they can pay entry fees until they have been around long enough to get the gist of judging. I don't expect keeping track of points to be a huge amount of work with the use of the plugin, which I have downloaded and applied to my skin entry board. I will try and work it out later, and provide a more detailed description of how it could work.

I'm just returning from a stressful school year and I apologize for my absence. I think a lot of people have been MIA because of life, but as they're returning I don't think it will be as hard to get people to judge races.

I have no issues judging for a while as I attempt to get my horses back into the game here XD

The idea of entry fees...scares me. lol just being honest.
