Rumors have been flying about Apollo Bear's recent races and the willingness of the stallion on the race track. At an older age of six, the black thoroughbred is starting to show his age as he struggles through his last year of racing. "Olio", as he is called around the barn, has had a rough racing career and only looks to be getting harder as year fifteen moves on.
We recently were able to catch up with his jockey, Isabelle Nottingham, and ask a few questions about Apollo Bear.
REPORTER: So Bella, tell us about Apollo Bear. He seems to be showing his age more this year than before. Could this potentially hint at an early retirement?
BELLA: Apollo Bear has had a rather calm and even racing career. Yes, he has hoty wins, but he has shown us that he prefers the undercard races over anything else. We were hoping to bring in more of the higher races but he just won't kick in those. He now has two wins this year out of nine starts, nothing to go crazy about. There was talk about retirement before he pulled off his win this week in the Cucumber Cup, but now we're wanting to see if he will keep climbing for us. For now we're gonna see how his next couple races go before making any decisions. Oceanic View would like to see him hit G1 but by no means will we push him into it if it means a potential injury.
