MYSTICAL MELODY and HENNA TURATH
FIRE DANCER and KRYSTAL YHATE
MEL'S WORKOUT FOR THE PREAKNESS STAKES
It had been decided to separate the duo for their prep workouts for the Preakness. So, Mel's partner had been decided on - Fire Dancer, Krystal's upcoming dirt two year old who reminded her of Onya, her now retired grade one turfer and Fire's half sister, for some reason. As it was, Fire was very unlike Onya in some respects. She was more intimidating, more scary and more serious. She acted like a much older racehorse compared to the fresh, young antics of Mel, who was a year older yet full of energy - as well as Fire's older sister. But for being sisters, the two acted so differently. Mel was bouncing on her hooves, as per usual. She had recently finished second in the Kentucky Derby to Furious Passion, and was looking to stake her claim to the title of Preakness Stakes champion. Fire had been good competition before - she would be even better competition now, with some races under her belt.
Exchanging a quick nod, Henna and Krystal began to canter their horses. Mel ached to go faster, chafing at the bit, while Fire calmly awaited the moment of release. She seemed to not care whether or not she got to race, but Krystal knew this to be a masquerade. Fire was dying to race Mel, simply because she had done that in her first competitive workout, and the desire was overwhelming. Today, they would be racing a half mile, after a half mile canter to loosen the muscles. The two fillies would be challenged. Mel would lead, with Fire following, and then Mel would have to stave off Fire's challenge. It would be a good challenge situation for the upcoming Preakness.
Quick as could be, the two fillies got moving. The half mile pole came, and off at a gallop they went.
