The season was beginning to turn as September rolled around, the leaves in the trees starting to change from green to gold and red. A soft wind blew through the trees, announcing it's presence in a soft whistling. It was not a warm wind but a cold one, and it was going to mean some changes around the yard. For starters, how everyone dressed was changing. The grooms and jockeys no longer wore t-shirts but long sleeves as they prepared for the weather to turn colder. The horses were being turned out in thicker blankets, and during the night the stables were oddly quiet. It was as if the cold had caused everything around the quieten.
With September coming a number of things were quickly approaching and, for Jacob, one of the most important things was the debut of filly, Forbidden Enchantment otherwise lovingly known as Tia. She was a troublesome thing, but she was well loved and it was easy to win her heart. As he strolled across the yard Jacob Donovan intended to do just that, bringing with him a carrot which he held behind his back. As he entered her stall the filly became excitable and Jacob had to push her backwards before offering her the quiet. As a result she calmed as he put on her tack, ready to work her.
Certainly the workouts from now would make a huge impact on her career. If they worked her well enough she might stand a chance of placing in her first race though they never did expect a win. Once she was ready he ran a hand down her white-striped face and started to lead her out. Of course, leading Tia was never easy. She was excitable, playful and overly curious. Even as she left her stall it was obvious that today was just going to be one of those days for the filly darted toward fellow maiden, Prideful Limits. The pair seemed to be developing a friendship and Jacob was not sure that was a good thing. Jacob pulled her away and managed to get the filly to follow him, almost without a problem which was somewhat amazing.
When they got to the track Jacob tightened the girth of the filly and mounted. He then gated her and prepared for the run. As the gates opened the filly flew out and moved quickly down the track. Her short stride meant she was able to move quickly front the start and she had no issues in finding her pace. She switched legs well on the corner and continued to move well as they headed toward the final straight. As they reached the three furlong point the crop fell upon her rump. She did not speed up however kept moving at the same speed which was by no means slow as they crossed the finish line.
