Two races down and Aztareal was doing well. He had shown in his debut and placed in his last race so Alexia certainly had high hopes for the colt. The chestnut had gone beyond her expectations so far, he had been against more experienced competition and made it worth their while. Certainly he seemed to have that competitive edge and maybe, just maybe, her young colt would be a true star. Maybe, if they were lucky, he'd one day enter the hall of fame. If that was to happen he would surely be a well demanded stud, but first they had a lot of work to do and there were a few years in him yet.
As the autumn sun began to rise life in the yard had already begun. The horses had been fed and groomed, some of them had been tacked up by grooms who knew the workout schedule. Today, Aztareal was working out alone. Alexia wanted to breeze him without the competition from others. He was a competitive colt and she wanted him to save his best for the course and as his day was quickly approaching she was going to save him for that time. She wanted him to shine as brightly as he could on the track in order for him to be the best he could be.
Bright and early, the blonde jockey walked across the yard expectantly. She already knew her star was tacked up and she was looking forward to spending some time on him. As she walked into his stable she was forced to push him back and she tested his legs for heat so she would not worsen any existing injuries. Finding none, she took the reins of her chestnut friend and started to lead him out, laughing as he nuzzled at her affectionately. That was her Aztec!
As she led him down to the track he behaved, walking calmly by her side, turning his head as a whinny crossed the yard. The colt whinnied back but then returned to following Alexia and boy was he smitten with her. It was like she was the only person in the whole world that mattered to him and the pair were certainly close. Alexia stroked the colt's white nose and smiled softly at him as she reached the track. "Well, Aztec, think you got what it takes to win this time?" she asked the colt and he tossed his head in reply. Hell yes, he was ready to win.
As she mounted she felt the colt shift with excitement and her laugh tinkled through the air. This colt really was her perfect ride and she could feel that their bond could achieve amazing things if they worked at it. Certainly, she intended to work at it as hard as she could to make it true. Az deserved it, the stable deserved it and she deserved it to. Her whole life had led her here. Tragedy, pain, suffering. They had all led to now and she intended to make the very most of it.
As the gated he snorted, kicking up a fuss as he went into the box, but when the gates opened he broke well and took a middling pace as they moved down the straight. His legs moved quickly beneath him and as they rounded a corner he threw himself into the turn without allowing himself to be slowed down it. When they reached the straight and Alexia made contact with the crop on his rump he sped forwards. The burst of speed was amazing as he moved onwards, his eyes pinned on the target and auds slicked across his skull. As they crossed the line Alexia wore a great smile. They were great together and they could do this.
