SERAPHIM AND SILVERIANNA WORKOUT FOR THE EAGLE CUP
The two fillies were quite alike. Both were grey, both stood at about sixteen hands, both were highly competitive. The difference was, one was a sprinter, the other preferred longer distances. Seraphim and Silverianna were their names. Their riders concentrated on keeping the two in check; they didn't want to ruin their chances on race day. So this morning's workout was just a very short blow out of only two furlongs. It would be enough to keep the fillies from being too overly hot on race day, but not tire them out.
As they warmed up, Sarah was deep in thought about the upcoming Eagle Cup. Originally they had planned for only Seraphim to run the race, but since it was so low on entries, they decided to give Silverianna a shot as well. The Bank On Silver and Night Stalker filly was better at a mile or more, but she could run six or seven furlongs pretty well too. Stella was the main jockey for both Seraphim and Silverianna, but Sarah often rode Silverianna as well. So when they'd entered the two in the same race, it had been decided that Stella would ride Sera, and Sarah would ride Ianna.
The two fillies cantered, both eager to run. Their riders kept them in check, holding them adjacent to each other. Silverianna usually ran behind the leaders, while Seraphim was a front runner through and through. The only other horse entered in the Eagle Cup was a colt by the name of Charismatic Outlet. He had a record of 6-1-1-1 and had broken his maiden in a six furlong race on dirt. Most recently the colt had come third to their own Euphorion and Sunset Crusade in the nine furlong dirt Turn Up The Heat Stakes.
As they rounded the turn, the fillies began to increase their speed, still cantering, but raring to gallop. Finally, as the two furlong pole loomed, the cue came. Both thoroughbreds sprang into gallop, quickly getting into gear and stretching out as they drove hard down the stretch. When they passed by the finish, it was difficult to tell who was ahead. They were ready for take off in the Eagle Cup.
