BORN TO SOAR, FURIOUS PASSION AND MR HAT AND CLOGS WORKOUT FOR CLIMAX CUP
Two out of the three were top contenders for this year's Racehorse of the Year award, being champions of the prestigious Triple Crown and Triple Tiara. Mr Hat and Clogs wasn't doing too badly either, having recently made grade three. The trio worked neck and neck, Furious Passion just keeping a nose ahead of the others. With the Climax Cup looming, the three thoroughbreds wouldn't be doing too much today. Just a quick four furlong blowout. The Climax Cup was for three year olds only, twelve furlongs on dirt. It was basically the Belmont Stakes all over again, with the Triple Tiara fillies entered as well. Mystical Melody, who had run in the Triple Crown, was entered. Dark Sunrise, who had run second to Born To Soar in every race in the Triple Tiara, was also entered. The rest of the entrants consisted of their three horses.
Sarah crouched on Born To Soar, getting ready to send the filly flying into gallop. Beside them, her sister Marissa did the same on Furious Passion. The four furlong pole loomed, then flashed by, and two horses broke swiftly into gallop. Blaze, who was apparently not paying attention, cursed as he nearly fell from Mr Hat and Clogs, who wasn't about to be left behind.
Furious Passion immediately drew into the lead by a length. Naturally, the colt liked to lead. But he often lost interest if his competition couldn't keep up, so we usually ran him as a closer. That way, he worked hard throughout the whole race and often won by short margins. Born To Soar, however, was content running behind the leaders until the final turn, where she usually overtook the leaders and powered away, putting space between herself and the other horses. Mr Hat and Clogs was similiar to Passion, usually running as a closer, except he continued to work until he either had nothing left or was told to slow down.
The thoroughbreds flew around the turn, Born to Soar hugging the rail, with mr Hat and Clogs on her flank, and Furious Passion maintaining a length ahead. As the corner leveled out into the stretch, Mr Hat and Clogs made his move, gaining rapidly on Furious Passion. The colt then closed their opening, and they would have to swing wide. Sarah growled, opening her arm out slightly, causing Born to Soar to move out. Then the filly began to drive, eating up the dirt with fast, long reaching strides. Furious Passion was also working hard now, but maybe it was too late. The finish line was just metres away, and both Sophia and Kisuke were flying. Passion wasn't Rising Fury's boy for nothing though; the colt pulled a miraculous burst of speed, beating Born To Soar by a mere neck, and Kisuke by little more than that.
With all three thoroughbreds fit and ready to go, they were ready to take on the Climax Cup.
