There was nothing like a race to get the blood pumping. No other sport could cause the adrenaline to rush in the way it did when equines went head on head. It was a ferocious, wild ride and those who were directly involved got the greatest rush of all. The jockeys, the horses, they felt like they were flying when they made their way around a track and they certainly earned there name as sports people. Some preferred the turf, some didn't care of the track, but for Alana it was all about the dirt. There was just something about it that made a shiver run down her spine and when she found a good partner for the dirt she put every ounce of her energy into it. Which was exactly why she had been hired by Silver Stride Stables when they had purchased afterglow. The prospect of the year the previous year, barely raced in the current season, they wanted to give every possibility to the filly to succeed and now was the time to start.
To be fair if you were looking at them they looked like nothing special. A short, brunette girl who just happened to be lucky enough to own a thoroughbred. The dark bay certainly wasn't the stand-out type. She walked beside the girl with a calm and steady stride, her head held high and her ears perked. Certainly, it would be easy to think the wrong way of them as they walked toward the track, but they would become known as stars on the track. Alana would make sure of it for, right now, Stormi had her full attention.
Mounting confidently she pushed the filly forwards and as they were gated a soft smile graced her face. "Bring it, world." she whispered as the filly boxed, nervously pawing at the ground as they waited for the gates to open. It was not, in fact, the fastest break in the world. The filly seemed hesitant even as they started the workout. Her flints hit the dirt in a sure, steady stride and as she started to run her confidence found her. She was home. Once the confidence came the run changed. The filly threw herself into it and her speed became incredible. Dirt flew behind her as she surged down the track, Alana pushing her steadily onwards. Certainly the filly acted as if she were leading a sprint and kept pushing on at a high pace, rounding the last corner and continuing with the pace. If it had been a race the remaining horses would have been left in the dust. They surged past the post and Alana wore a victorious smile. This was the beginning of a great partnership.
