Flying Solo and Sam Morgan
Once mounted up on the colt, which took a while, since I had to have lots of help to get on his back. Once on his back, the colt tired a couple of times to get me off, by bucking. It was like breaking a yearling all over again. Finally he gave in and I kept my guard up knowing this colt had plenty of more tricks up his hooves.
On the track it seemed he calmed down a bit, so I asked for him to canter to let him breeze for moment. This was his first workout and there wasn’t a race ready for him yet. The muscles were relaxing slowly as I felt him more and I knew he had lot more poteinal if given a chance and that his aggressive attuide change. Still cantering slowly, as we decided to try him at five furlongs, since we didn’t know what his distance preference was. Still the ride was smooth and I figured the colt must had a rough past. The ride was smooth and clicked a little of the tongue, being soft for him to break a little more. The speed didn’t increased showing he was just playing with me on the track.
“Come on now boy! GO! I yelled to see this would get him to pick up speed, but again nothing. His ears just stayed forward like I wasn’t there. The colt was playing the stubborn card game on the track. Using my whip threaten to use it, and this got him to stop his act and quickly he began to increased the speed, which was good feeling to have. Stride began to stretch out, as he used his big size for his advantage, and soon enough it was over. Pulling a little a firm on the reins, not to hurt the young colt, but show it was over, and again he was resisting it. He was going to be handful and I hoped he would quit the act quickly. Giving him a pat to show him some kindness and that everything was ok. Slowly his limbs began to slow down to a walk and I dismounted and wished the groom handlers luck with him, as I went to the trainer’s house to give him the report on the colt and my opinion of his attuide and how we can stop it soon before he is in any races.
