FLASHY WINGS AND HENNA TURATH
FIRE DANCER AND KRYSTAL YHATE
WORKOUT FOR THE YOUTH CHALLENGE
This race had been a promise enacted not long ago. At the end of their first workout together, Flash had beaten Fire, and Krystal had promised a rematch to see who truly was better. Now, months later, the promised rematch was taking place. It was as a final prep for the Youth Challenge, which Flash was running in but Fire wasn't. Fire was prepping for her shot at the Juvenile Fillies in a couple weeks, while Flash was getting ready for the Juvenile. This race, a rematch, would get the horses to perhaps start a rivalry that would last for their racing careers. It was an exciting prospect, really. Krystal could already see the potential in such a partnership - the pairing work throughout the Triple Crown and Tiara, the challenges across sex boundaries in the World Cup and Breeders Cup next year...it was exciting.
Flash was a gorgeous colt. Of that, none could doubt. He carried himself with an innate pride out onto the track, and at the command of Henna began to canter. Henna looked out for Fire, wondering where in the world that filly and Krystal were. Being scolded or challenged by Amber or something? The women were always challenging each other to races. Perhaps Amber wanted to ride one her mounts against Fire. Whatever the case, it didn't concern Henna. Fire and Krystal could show up late, but they'd still be beaten by her and Flash. Smirking, she continued the warm up, turning her colt around as they reached the end of the strait and bringing him back. She caught sight of a monstrously tall dark bay filly, and smiled. Their challenger was here.
Krystal had no expression on her face as she began warming Fire up. As per usual, the filly had an intimidating, no-nonsense aura about her that put other horses off. Few wanted to get friendly with her due to this, but Fire was a social creature, even if she didn't act it. She, like all horses, sought company if there was one nearby she could tolerate. But usually, she stuck to herself, like a dirt version of Deadly Desires. Though apparently, her personality reminded Krystal of Onya. Perhaps it was the fiery determination? Either way, they had to warm up now. She began to canter Fire, and together they worked warmth into her muscles and prepared her for the race.
When both horses were deemed ready by their riders, they lined up in the middle of the backstretch. Four furlongs, all out sprint. They glanced at each other. The poignancy of the rematch was thick on their tongues. Then, in unison, they counted down, and then off the two horses went. In a blur of wind and motion, the promised rematch was underway. But the conclusion? Unknown, to this day. Neck and neck the two horses went and remained, neck and neck they ended and slowed. And glares were sent between the two horses, glares of challenge. A new rivalry had indeed been created.
