DUBAI WORLD CUP Workout with BORN TO SOAR and FURIOUS PASSION
They began their warm up with a trot. Furious Passion was giving Marissa a bit of grief, like always; the colt was fired up and ready to race. Born To Soar was side stepping a bit, tossing her head. She was also very keen for a race. The pair were top contenders for the Dubai World Cup, and both very likely Horse of the Year award winners. Furious Passion had really shown his true talents this year, surpassing everyone's expectations by miles. The moody colt had won nine races this year, and was now only a single win away from Grade One. As a Triple Crown Champion, mare owners were already queuing up for his offspring.
Born To Soar, what a stunner. Good looks like a supermodel, we always said. The three year old filly had a record of 36-19-9-5, and had won her way through twelve of twenty starts this season, including becoming the first Triple Tiara Champion. She had talent for miles, and as a dual surface runner, she had beaten the best on both the turf and dirt.
Pressing her colt into canter, Marissa was going over the race in her mind. They were up against all fillies, surprisingly. Very talented fillies, no doubt about that. Thankfully, Passion wasn't distracted (yet) by the females of his kind. Moondance would break from gate one. The grade three filly had recently been sold by Stride of Perfection Stables to the up and coming Silver Stride Stables. In gate two would be Dashing in the Firelight, from SOPS. The four year old mare had been injured last year, but had made a hell of a comeback this year, rising from grade five to grade two. Dual surface filly Sillenia would be breaking from gate three. The grade three filly was consistent, but hadn't had a win since the Kentucky Open back in May. Then came their two, in gate four and five. A small field, despite the fact that there were alot of possible contenders out there.
As previously agreed, the pair broke into gallop at the six furlong marker. They were just going to gallop four furlongs easily, then a quick blow out on the final two. The huffing sounds of the horses breathing quickened, and their ears turned back from the rushing wind. As they rounded the turn and the straight stretched out before them, each horse naturally began to quicken their pace. Two furlongs to go! Sarah glanced over at the colt. Passion was aggressively gaining speed, pulling ahead rapidly. She cued Born To Soar and the filly made a break for it.
It wasn't a race, but the horses sure were treating it that way. Each of them fought hard for first place, but there wasn't enough time. They passed by the finish line with Furious Passion ahead by a length. You go the drop on us that time, but you won't in the race! Sarah called to her sister, grinning slightly. Born To Soar dropped back to canter, then trot on cue. Furious Passion circled back to meet them, a slight sheen of sweat forming on the colt's neck. Marissa scratched behind his ears affectionately, also grinning. It was going to be a good race, that was for sure. They were ready to face the world in the Dubai World Cup.
