Workout for Grade Four Dirt - 9F
[/color][/blockquote][/blockquote]The next dirt track and race was the final workout for our stock before race day. The stallion was coming in and maturing well, he was going to be a great stud next year. We have plans for him to be bred by our own mare racing this year as well. The foal from them would be amazing like it parents. The stallion was bought a year ago from a neglected stable, it took a lot of hard work to get his trust and most importantly his fitness was back to full form. White soft bandages were wrapped around his legs to keep tendon injury to a minimum. We didn't want to retire the handsome stallion early due to injury. The stallion was running smoothly on the dirt now as his muscles were getting warmed up, this was important for the stallion's body. The hard work which the body was going to be under, it was important that every muscle was warmed up. The gates were checked and ready for the stallion to be in them and to get the workout under way.
The field was really short there were three others horses in the field. So in total was four runners. It was prefect for Storm as he loved a smaller field and didn't have to challenge as much to get the lead and keep it etc. Gate two and three were horses from Silver Stride Stable. Gate two held a dark bay colt named Dark Charmer, this colt is a closer and a good horse. Studying his way on the track during his races was really impressive for a young colt, he was one of the threats which could take Storm's lead. Gate two held a dark bay filly named Afterglow, this filly is difficult to judge as she tends to change lead. All Storm can do is keep her on his toes and don't give her the advantage of taking the lead, since it could be suicide if he did. Lastly Gate four held a chestnut colt named Euphorion from Star Thoroughbred Stable, he is a predecer and very good with the stamina. All the horses in the field were younger than Storm, but sometimes being older as it advantage, with tough competition we be happy if he came in second or third.
Now in the gate and breaking slowly as he usually does when the gates open. He was in a comfortable stride as he was galloping along the rail and hanging back. The stallion was forcing on his job and slowly he crept up some more as the stallion felt the slight rein touching his neck and he was happy with it. His legs were spreading some more as he galloping faster. The wind was blowing softly and light rain was falling down, making the dirt slightly boggy, still this didn't faze him and he kept on going with his work. Quarter of mile as passed and the stallion moved into second position now since the field was very small, and he loved being this position and holding the ground well, being last most of the race he had enough energy to take on the leader. The final two furlongs were to go and the stallion had his head now as the reins were fully lose and he responded very well and sped up some more. His limbs stretched further apart and he stamina increase now as well, he make be five but his speed was still there and so was the courageous attitude. His limbs crossed the line and he was done with his workout, pulling him up as we wanted to keep his energy for the race now. getting him back to a trot I patted his neck and gave him a well done pat on the neck and a headed back to the yard.
