SILVERIANNA AND NATURALLY CHARISMATIC WORK FOR THE MOTHER GOOSE STAKES*
The second race of the Triple Tiara loomed. Naturally Charismatic was joining in for this race and next, while Silverianna would run in all three races. After losing to Afterglow in the Acorn, Stella and Silverianna were especially determined to take this race. As half sister of Born To Soar, Naturally Charismatic could certainly pull a surprise win here. Both fillies had it in their blood, after all - Ianna's brother Impressario was a Triple Crown Champion, after all. Not to mention all her other amazing siblings. And Born To Soar, Horse Of The Year last year, was Charis' half sister.
The dirt felt firm underfoot, and both thoroughbreds felt fresh and energetic. They began their warmup at a trot, as usual keeping to the outside rail of the track as other thoroughbreds galloped past on the inside rail. So, do you think this might be Charis's second win? Stella asked, grinning. Sarah grinned back, but thought about her answer for a few more moments. It's possible, but I think you and Ianna have a better chance. Afterglow certainly won't go down without a fight. And Fire Dancer isn't a bad filly either. She shrugged. I don't know alot about Erin Shore, but there's every chance she could pull a surprise.
Stella listened in silence, agreeing with Sarah completely. Silverianna was in great form. She only just lost by a nose in the Acorn. They switched to canter. For either of our girls to win would be amazing.. Stella said, remembering her last win on Ianna. The filly was amazing when she wanted to be. That was most of the time, too. It would. Sarah agreed, clucking to Charis, who had been distracted slightly by a loud whinny that came from somewhere not too far behind them. The filly listened for a few more moments, then picked up the pace again.
As they rounded the turn into the backstretch, they began to prepare to gallop. Their hands gripped handfuls of mane, their legs bent a little more to allow them to crouch closer to their horses. Given the cue, Silverianna shot forward, taking the lead. Charis followed more slowly, then poured on the speed to catch up. By the time they reached the turn into the homestretch, she was right behind Ianna.
As the turn ended, Charis moved up to challenge. Silverianna widened the space in between herself and the rail, giving Charis the space she needed to shoot forward. About a furlong from the finish, both fillies were flying along. Sarah showed her filly the whip, and Charis put on a final burst of speed, crossing the line first. The filly breathed hard, she'd worked hard, and it had paid off. Silverianna had been barely a neck behind, but Charis had won, and she'd loved it. It was something she hadn't experienced since her second start. Sarah grinned widely, which Stella returned. They couldn't wait for race day.
