Who will be GHF's Next Top Racehorse?

With six of the ten shows completed, the question of who will win the GHF's Next Top Racehorse award is one that many stables have on their mind. Often, the horse to take this title goes on to be awarded the Best Prospect awards in the year-end award ceremonies, providing a solid start to a horse's career. Last years title went to Silver Stride Stables' Cajun Moon, but who will it go to this year?

One filly which certainly seems to be going for this award is Sophie's Voice. Out of Sophie Might and by Cryin Out Loud, she is bred for the sprints although she seems to be sufficient at a mile, as well. This filly runs on both surfaces and has so far ran in five of the six races, winning two and placing in the other three. This strong contender shows no signs of letting up and is one to watch next year!

Akumabuelle is another filly to watch, with two first places from her two starts in the competition. Out of Deabuelle and by Akuma Battlecry she has the breeding of a star and the potential to become a real legend of the track. She runs eight to eleven furlongs and seems determined to make a good impression.

The remaining two wins of the six races that have started went to Silver Stride Stables' Flyin Out Loud - yet another filly! Out of Flying Loose and by Cryin Out Loud, she is the half sister of Sophie's Voice and runs sprints on the turf. Flyin Out Loud has also shown in another of the series and seems to be a strong filly.

It seems that so far, the girls are coming out on top in this prestigious series, showing us the talents just waiting to be released on the track next year. Who will win the title is a matter in contention, but what we can be sure of is that this is one race which is not over yet.

Just over half way through the series and we appear to have a clear leader. Sophie's Voice of Silver Stride Stables is in the lead by 16 points and certainly seems to be showing the makings of an excellent racehorse. However, things could change drastically with four races remaining. Who will take the title?

With the next show in the GHF's Next Top Racehorse series only a few days away, we look at the contenders slotted to compete, a number which has so far amounted to ten and we do not yet know if Star Thoroughbreds intend to add any further entries.

Entry one is Barely Legal, of Close Racing. This filly is out of Stride Of Perfection Stables' broodmare, Barely A Moment and the Riverwood Acres stud, Testimonial Circumstances. With a grade one dam and a grade two sire, good things could be expected of her although in the four shows she has entered so far her highest placing has been fifth place in the Akita Prospecto Stakes.

As entry two, Silver Stride Stables have the first of their horses - filly Wish Upon A Star. Out of grade one Warm Wishes and sired by the Hall Of Fame stud, Everyday Hero she has impressive parents as well as impressive siblings such as Beyond The Limits (G1) and Vindictive Fury (G1) both of whom have a multitude of wins to their name. Wish Upon A Star has won two of the three shows she has been entered in this year, and placed in the third.

Entry three is the second of the Silver Stride Stables entries, and definitely something to be excited about. Italian Ice has not yet shown, and so this is her first outing onto the track, but with her lines you can guarantee she'll come out with a bang. Sired by the grade one, triple crown winner Impressario, who was inducted into the Hall Of Fame upon retirement, her lines include the likes of HOF Merry Bay King and HOF Bank On Silver which just adds a host of highly successful relatives. She is out of the grade one broodmare, Cute Italian - the only foal out of this mare so far. It will be exciting to see her show day.

The final Silver Stride Stables entry, entry four, is Aquatic Addiction. Sired by the grade on sire, Shiver Me Timbers, who is renowned for producing sucessful sprinters, and out of GS Addicted To Love he is the half brother of grade two Buccaneer. Aquatic Addiction currently has two shows and a place in the series, and is currently ranked in fourth position.

Special Edition, entry five, from Gelli Aur Stables has been performing impressively this year with a second, a third and two fourths in the series. This chestnut colt, out of Palisades Silver and sired by Gold Edition seems to be striving for glory. Will he find it in the upcoming show?

The next entry, also from Gelli Aur Stables, is the dark bay filly out of the true Fallen For (grade one, True Enough x Fallen Angel) and sired by grade one stallion Cryin' Out Loud - Loud and Clear. Her record this year has not shown any top three placings, but she definitely has the lines for talent with her half sister, Flyin' Out Loud up in third place in the standings. Will she be able to improve her record this week?

Gelli Aur's final entry for the show is the chestnut filly, War Cry. Out of the impressive grade one broodmare, Strictly Speaking, and sired by Akuma Battlecry this filly has some impressive siblings on the track including two year olds Euphoria's Warrior and Lusitania's Soldier. Up until now, this filly has been unshown and is being given her first chance to shine this week.

Kacey Hill Racing managed to snap up a sweet deal from Star thoroughbreds when they purchased the chestnut colt Gallant Knight. Out of the mare, Gallant Queen, and sired by grade one News Flash - the sire of the famous grade one three year old, Flashy Wings - this colt has the ability to shine. It's his first time out on the show circuit this week.

Prison Hill Stables have entry number nine, with their filly C'est Impossible. Being created, she might struggle against the bloodlines in this show however she is not unheard of having placed fifth in last months show and finding herself in joint ninth on the leaderboard.

The final known entry for this show, Oak Hill Farm are hoping that Dreamcatcher will be able to make her mark. Out of grade one Dare to Dream, and sired by the grade one CCI Surprise Party she has the blood to succeed. As her mother's first foal, she could make her dam's career and with a grandsire like Prancing In The Darkness it is easy to see why Oak Hill Farm have high hopes for the filly.

The results are out. The seventh race in the series, with only three remaining, was a highly competitive field despite not having any entries from Stride Of Perfection Stables or Star Thoroughbreds! In the end, it was Italian Ice who came out on top - and who is really surprised? With lines like that, and a temperament like she seems to be developing, this filly really could be the next biig thing! She was joined in the top three by C'est Impossible and Dreamcatcher. Race eight of the series, and a strong field was presented for the crowds. The winner was the half sister of the winner of race 8 and her lines are more than a little impressive - out of Rising Fury and by Impressario there is definitely no questioning where her talent came from! In second place we see Night Goddess - Night Goddess is out of the Unicorn Horn Juvenile/Breeder's Cup Marathon winner Grand Silence and has some very impressive siblings. Third place was also no real surprise! The half brother of the now-retired turf star, Lawliet's Girl, Blue Me Away did his family proud with his placing. The standings for the contest have been released.

The ninth show has taken place, and there is only one show remaining! This month saw Turf Prospects strutting their stuff for the crowds, and boy were they out to impress! Blue Me Away was able to take away the victory in this case, but it was a close call with Ode To Glory in second and the Impressario foal, Ventura, in third position.

It's all over folks, with the GHF's Next Top Racehorse Series finale complete we are finally able to see how the yearlings have done so far this year. But first, lets look over the results of the tenth and final round.

It was a close show today, with sisters Italian Ice and Ventura going head to head. There was expected to be fireworks, and the pair did not disappoint, coming in first and second place. It was Italian Ice, owned by Silver Stride Stables, who eventually placed first over her Stride Of Perfection Stables owned sister. In third, owned by Akira Rose Stables, Dirty Diana did not fail to impress. Fourth was Wish Upon A Star, another Silver Stride Stables owned filly and in fifth, Nightshade on Intrepid Racing.

The final standings have now been announced.

It's official, Ventura has taken the GHF's Next Top Racehorse crown, stealing it away from Sophie's Voice by only three points. The next release will be a summary of the top three in this highly competitive series.
