Hello everybody, welcome to the Review! I'm an anonymous reporter reporting for the Gallop in our new column. Somebody has to give that Prison Hill Stables column some competition!
In this edition we'll take a look at June Week Three, when many other races as well as the Seaspray Cup ran. Many good horses were seen out there today and the results were equally good!
The first race to run was the Girly Cup, featuring a very unevenly matched field. The winner was the favorite, Sillenia. Unsurprising, considering she is a seasoned grade two racehorse with major wins. Half sister of Born To Soar, Naturally Charismatic, moved strongly in the stretch but couldn't catch Sillenia, placing second. Dazzling Dame, the lone two year old and full to Infinite Warcry, ran out of stamina and placed third.
The Machine Stakes ran next. Studley Dudley finally took home a win after a string of thirds for Star Thoroughbreds. Behind him The Innocent Skier placed second just ahead of Worldbreaker. Nothing much to say about this race - it was as it was.
The Charming Cup featured some good sprinters, but the most seasoned of them all, Pegasus Wings, took the win. Seattle Sun placed second. This kind of reminds me of last year's Breeders Cup, when Seattle Sun also placed second to this stallion. Running soon after was the Polkadot Stakes. There was fierce competition in this one. Somehow, Axis Mundae pulled off the win over the "unstoppable" White Chocolate and her full sister Beltane. Then again, she was seen working well on the track lately.
The Seaspray Cup Grade Five was a fascinating fight between two year old rivals. Instant Success, acquisition of new Kacey Hill Stables, placed first, while Paradise Island placed second. Fire Dancer placed third and appears inclined to continue placing third. I believe the filly has a case of thirditus. Meanwhile, this race belonged to the two year olds.
The Kiss Your Title Stakes featured an extremely surprising result. Dashing in the Firelight, who had been off form all year, actually beat last year's Triple Crown and Triple Tiara champions with a stunning win! I haven't seen Henna grin like that after a race for months. Born To Soar placed second, Mystical Melody third and Furious Passion fourth. It was a good race to watch! The Seaspray Cup Grade Two, on the other hand, wasn't. Kentucky Derby winner Sunset Crusade won by a head over Dark Sunrise, adding more shine to an already brilliant star. He's definitely one to watch.
The Seaspray Cup Maiden was the largest race on the card, I think. Enchantress won, with Prince Arthur second and two year old Stalker's Fury third. It was a hard fought race on all sides. Nothing much more to say. The Seaspray Cup Grade 3 and 4 featured a win from hard working Afterglow, who placed ahead of the equally hard working Mr Hat and Clogs and Dark Charmer. It was the filly's day, and Silver Stride definitely looked pleased with the win.
Meanwhile, the Seaspray Cup Grade One featured the eighth win of the season for Vindictive Fury. It's like the mare is on steroids or something this year, she's been on fire. Bank On Greatness continued his seconditus streak, and Breeders Cup Classic winner Moondance placed third. It was a good race as well.
And there's your summary for week three. Thanks for reading!
