HORSES AND BREEDING
HORSE RULES
+ Horses must be aged every six months according to our time legend.
+ Horses should be created/born with our profile form (in the create board). You are welcome to add your own flair to it.
+ Considering this is just a thoroughbred racing site, all horses should be thoroughbreds.
+ Only one dual surface horse may be created per member per year. You may breed as many as you like. Please refer to to the breeding guidelines for more information. The only exception is winning the trivia prize.
+ Horses may have a distance range of no more than 4 furlongs. These ranges can be 5-8, 6-9. 7-10, 8-11 or 9-12. You can have a shorter range if you wish, but no longer. The only exception to this rule is if you get it as a prize.
+ Horses must be registered or they cannot take part in racing or breeding. The registration number and link to the registration must be on the horse's page.
+ Famous names may not be used for horses, characters or display names. This includes names of real horses, real people, movies, tv shows, names of characters/horses in movies/tv shows, etc.
HORSE REGISTRY
The horse registry was implemented in Y11 after a few tries in previous years.
The main purpose for introducing the compulsory registration of all horses on Green Horse Fields was basically to be able to keep track of them all. Having accurate records of all horses racing and breeding here means than when we need to, we can use the registry to reclaim horses, search horses, search taken names etc.
Using it to your advantage
Searching taken names
Using the search function in the Registry board, search for the name you desire to use. If no results are found, then you will usually be allowed to use the name.
Searching offspring
If you would like to know more about a stud's or mare's offspring, you can search his or her name in the Registry board using the search function and it should turn up all of his or her offspring as well as the horse's own registration details.
CREATING A HORSE
To create a horse, head on over to the create board. Make sure you read all of the information in the horse profile form thread before you create a new horse. Once your horse has been accepted by a staff member, make sure you post it's profile in your stable and then register it.
BUYING/SELLING A HORSE
Because we don't actually have a site currency, you can't just buy a horse and be done with it. Instead, you have to request to buy the horse from the current owner in their sale thread. If you are accepted to buy the horse, you need to copy the horse's stats into your stable, then change the horse's registration details. Sellers usually set a contract you must agree to before buying the horse. They usually want the opportunity to buy the horse back if you decide to sell, reclaim if you go inactive, and have the option of breeding from the horse once retired.
BREEDING RULES
+ Both the mare and the stallion need to be four years old to breed.
+ Roleplaying of the breeding is not permitted.
+ Twins are rare. Please keep that in mind.
+ Please keep colour, height, preferences etc realistic when you make the foal stats.
+ You should keep a record of all breedings in your stable.
+ Refer to the breeding guidelines below for more information.
BREEDING HORSES
Dual surface horse x dual surface horse = dual surface foal. Dual surface horse x dirt horse = dirt foal. Dual surface horse x turf horse = turf foal. Dirt horse x dirt horse = dirt foal. Turf horse x turf horse = turf foal. Dirt horse x turf horse = fail foal (foal will be good, okay or bad on both. DO NOT MAKE THIS PAIRING).
Distances should also be matched loosely. Don't breed a sprinter stallion to a mare who prefers distances of 9-12 furlongs. Try to match sprinters to sprinters, milers to milers and routers to routers. Sprinters paired with milers can also be nice, as are milers paired with routers.
Temperament of the parents will influence the temperament of the foal strongly. For example, my mare Rising Fury is pretty crazy, and all of her offspring have inherited this.
The colour of the foal should be either the colour of the dam or the sire. Since some pairings may not result in a foal the colour of either it's dam or sire realistically, you can also use a coat colour calculator.
Both the stud owner and the mare owner need to make a record of the breeding.
The birth date for the foal is the year it was conceived. It becomes a yearling the year after that, and is two years old the following year, and so on. Example - mare and stallion paired in Y9. Foal born Y9. Foal is a yearling in Y10, foal turns two in Y11, and so on.
The foal stats should be posted immediately with all the vital information, so you can register the foal. You don't need to add the personality until the foal begins racing.
