ETERNAL PHANTOM AND KRYSTAL YHATE
PHANTIE'S WORKOUT FOR THE RED STAKES
To mess with Phantie was a bad, bad idea. Though the filly was ordinarily emotionless and stoic, she was quite capable of lashing out in sudden and unexpected fits of rage. What these fits were raging at remained unclear, but all Krystal needed to know was that she had them, so the best thing to do would be to be prepared to deal with them. Though that was the only true downside to riding Phantie. Ordinarily, the filly was a joy to race. She seemed to innately have an instinct for how to run and win, and had shown consistency and quick thinking typical of those much older than her. Thus, she had outshown many of her two year old running mates, and Krystal aimed to get her to continue doing so.
The Red Stakes was huge in terms of the field. With eleven competitors, including her two year old rivals Instant Success and Paradise Island, Krystal wanted the win badly. She had been working Phantie hard off the racetrack and on it, and Phantie was fit as a drum. She moved with powerful fluidity and acted with quiet assurance. She conducted herself in a fashion befitting her record, including a win over many of her current rivals in the Burning Blaze Stakes. They were due for the win that would make them grade fours, and Krystal hungered for the title. Phantie had talent and temper. She had what was needed to get there. All they needed was luck. Working hard would also hopefully lessen the chances of defeat, though nothing could ever be guaranteed in racing.
Their canter quickly transitioned to a gallop which seemed to be never ending. They ran fast, and soon they were done. Their efforts would either be rewarded or rejected come race day.
