EUPHORIA'S WARRIOR WORKS FOR OVER THE RAINBOW STAKES
It was a complete last minute entry. We'd been debating which race to run him in, whether to run him at all.. it had been decided, within minutes of entries closing, that he would run in the Over The Rainbow Stakes. Sarah was curious as to why Warrior hadn't recieved the media attention that some of the other two year olds had recieved this year. It was strange, considering that he had two half brothers a year older than him - one was this year's Kentucky Derby winner, Sunset Crusade, and the other was Euphorion, who was the first horse to have an all Hall of fame pedigree.
And it wasn't as though Warrior wasn't doing well. His record was at 10-3-2-4, and he'd won the Alot To Live Up To Stakes* G5+G4 Dirt race two weeks ago. Against older horses, too. Now he would be facing older horses again in the Over The Rainbow Stakes; what he lacked in maturity, he made up for (and more) with talent. Other two year olds were being raved about, even though they were less consistent and had raced more to get where they were. Oh well. It didn't really matter. He'd show them, and so would his almost twin brother, Lusitania's Soldier. And all their other stablemates their age.
The colt galloped strongly on the dirt, with alot of energy and enthusiasm. Knowing that Warrior was healthy and strong made Sarah wonder about horses his age that had been raced five or so more times than he had. It was only the beginning of October. Even ten starts at this point was pushing it for a two year old, really. As he finished the turn and accelerated into the straight, Sarah felt power she hadn't felt before from him. Day by day, he was getting stronger and faster. It was when she felt this though, that made it all the more obvious.
The colt was ready for this. He was ready to compete in a higher grade. He was ready to make the media eat their words. He was the one they don't see coming, until he pushes his nose past them right at the line. He was ready for the Over The Rainbow Stakes.
