The prospect series, GHF's Next Top Racehorse, came to a dramatic conclusion earlier this week when Ventura snatched the title from under the nose of Sophie's Voice, who had been topping the leader board for the majority of the year. But what do you actually know about the top three?
Ventura, the overall winner of the series, is a very powerful racehorse. As the daughter of the Hall Of Fame inductees Impressario and Rising Fury what else was really to be expected? Not only are her parents from the Hall Of Fame, but her grandparents on her father's side are too! Her older half sister, Vindictive Fury, has been tearing up the track this year and is expected to do well in the Horse Of The Year Awards. This year, Ventura has certainly been showing herself to have a huge level of potential, winning the Stable Face Off Prospect Turf, one leg of the GHFs Next Top Racehorse series as well as placing in one and showing in a further three. Ventura is, of course, not the only filly of her bloodline at her age. Her sire has also sired two other foals who are currently prospects, Italian Ice has also been proving herself to be a major threat having won both of her shows this year, including beating her sister out of the win in the final while the colt Born To Impress is yet to be seen. Rumor has it that Ventura has shown a preference for races of seven to ten furlongs on either surface, meaning that she could be a potential future Triple Tiara contender. This willful filly has certainly had a good show this year, and will be one to watch in the new year!
Sophie's Voice has been an amazing filly to watch this year, and has led the leader board for the majority of the season, being beaten out at the last moment by the overall winner. Had she been three points higher, it would have been a draw. So far this year, Sophie's Voice has won the Unicorn Horn Prospect as well as two legs of the GHF's Next Top Racehorse series. She has also placed in the Stable Face Off Prospect Turf Sprint and in a further three legs of the GHF's Next Top Racehorse series. But who is this filly? She is the daughter of the broodmare, Sophie Might (who only ever made it to Grade Five) and the stud Cryin Out Loud. On her mother's side, there is only one older foal - the grade five Lynara's Kingdom, who placed third in the prospect series last year. On her sire's side, there are currently three foals - all of whom are prospects this year! The other two foals are Flyin Out Loud and Loud And Clear, both of whom also entered the GHF's Next Top Racehorse series. Sophie's Voice is a powerful sprinter on both surfaces, and is one to watch for next year.
Special Edition has had a decent season this year and is the highest placing colt in the contest. It is hard, however, to track down his achievements due to the fact that his stable has not been keeping his record up to date this season. As such, we shall just tell you a little about the colt himself and his bloodlines. Running six to nine furlongs on dirt, this sprinter-miler has a lot of potential and could well be a threat to horses from some of the bigger bloodlines. He is sired by the Grade Three racer, Gold Edition and out of Palisades Silver, a grade five mare. Palisades Silver is a proven dam, however, and so it should not be a surprise that her latest foal is performing so well!
How will these three fine specimens perform next year? Who will be the new GHF's Next Top Racehorse champions? We can only wait and see!
