Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf*[/center]
This was going to be a very risky placing Dame in the breeder's cup. She haven't had a win since she broken her maiden, but she loved the challenged and this makes her run more. Sam was riding the bay filly, and hopefully to victory. Her father was great turf racer, and already her full brother Warcey was a grade four. The filly was still maturing and young, hopefully her three year old season next year would be lot better one. Sam mounted on the filly as she was on the yard, Leo came over and stroked her neck. Now there is no more runners with her, but keep her speed down until the finished. She is losing her stamina to early in the race. Sam nodded as he was great with front runners. Heading towards the track he trotted her towards the gates. Dame pricked her ears up and was beginning stubborn again, she reared up showing she wouldn't go in the gate. Sam gave her a snap just to get her settled and the filly responded without anymore questions asked. She jumped into the gate and quickly the loaders closed the doors. The filly settled into the little place and waited for the doors to spring open.
The gates sprung open and the bay filly sprung out like there was no tomorrow. She wanted to get away from the enclosed space and breaking a little to soon, she hit her rump on the gate. This cause her to lose some gait in her stride, Sam being experienced in this kind of things picked her head up and gain her balance. Dame responded to the handling and soon her stride picked up and she got into her usual speed. With the breeder's cup like two days away, this kind of mistake would be fatal in the field. There is a possible of better and faster horses in the field with her. Still Dame learnt the lesson and wouldn't rush out again. Sam focus on keeping the filly back and keeping her speed and stamina until it was needed for the finished. Also he didn't want to burn the filly out from her actual job. Sam pushed the filly a little more just enough to keep her from being lazy or falling the sleep. Even with a small cut on her rump, Dame kept on running as she loved to run, and showing her breeding was strong.
It was time to get the filly speed up more as the closer horses were bound to make their move now. Pushing the filly more asking for a little bit more speed, just to show that she wasn't tired and still was fighting strong. Dame wanted to go more faster, and started to fight the bit, Sam noticed this with Shetan Dame, stop it now. You aren't going yet, she kept on his turning her head and her stride was beginning to drop a slightly. Tapping her shoulder with his whip, to get her behave was enough to stop her antics and she focus on running the speed she was told to run in. Sam kept this stride with Dame for another mile, until the final turn was beginning come into view. Sam knew this was the cue to let the filly go and run full out, Dame responded and stretched her limbs out like something was chasing her. Ears were flat against her skull, enjoying the run and listen to Sam's encouragement. Sam yelled to encouarge the filly more, pushing her on, making her go faster like she never been before, she kept on running until she cross the line and it was really fast.
Pulling her up gently Sam walked her towards Leo and jumped off her back inspecting the cut on her rump. The stupid filly jumped out to early and caught herself on the gate. Leo had a look and saw it wasn't serious. The wound isn't serious Sam, she can still run. Just bathing it with some antiseptic and it would heal ok on it's own. We check her before she goes to the race, for any swelling in the legs, but I am confident she would still be able to run. Leading her back to the stall, Sam went to the jockey's lounge to have some rest and focus on the race in two days time.
