Special Edition and Aaron Smith
How quickly the year have flown by and the new season was under way. Aaron just come back yesterday from his trip away to the new world as he called it. Being slightly jetlag, he went into the office where Leo was waiting for him. Scratching his head he was worried a little I am not late am I Leo?, Leo turned around and looked at him smiling no just thinking about that recent attack we had. But anyway the new foals would be here soon enough and I can't wait to see them. But business is usual, you are entered in maiden race with Special Edition. Aaron was shocked you mean I am riding him throughout his racing career? Giving a nod Aaron shook his hand. I wouldn't let you down Leo, I would make him into a champion just like Silver Birch he then left.
Walking across the yard he saw Special Edition and patted his neck. Hello boy ready to get to work? As if the chestnut colt understood he bobbed his head up and down. This made Aaron laugh, and Kiara came along to give him a leg up. Thank you, he smiled and trotted the colt towards the track. Aaron knew what this colt was like, he rode him to the prospect season and had a good turn out, the colt in fact was third in the prospect season table, which was brilliant. His half brother Lucky Silver, finished in the exact same position in his prospect record. With new stables coming into the circuit the competition was ferocious now, still this is what the colt loves, he loves the challenge and even begs for it sometimes.
Trotting towards the gate and Edition didn't care about them at all, and walked right into them. Standing there patiently he waited for those gates to open. He wanted to race, even though it was just a simple work out. He didn't care, he wanted to do this now. Then when the gates flung open, Edition broke cleanly and fast, showing he was gaining the essential experince from the prospect season last year. Aaron got him settled along the middle of the track into fourth position. The field was expected to be large and Aaron needed to get him into a good position so the colt wouldn't have to gallop as hard to get to the front. Edition kept his stride smooth, and was taking the work seriously, he loved to run and show off a little in the process. Tapping him a little on his shoulder was all that was needed to get the colt back in line and focus.
Aaron pushed the colt to more forward and getting him just behind the preceders. The final turn was about to come around the corner. Come on boy, let's fly! He yelled at him and Edition responded charging towards the lead, weaving along the outside, like he was racing and with the field expected to be large, he couldn't afford to be boxed in. The pretend horse leading the race, was tiring and Edition took this advantage, and quickly snagging the lead and kept running until his hooves crossed the finishing line.
Aaron pulled the colt up gently and patted his neck. That was good boy, well done. Edition whinnied happily as he loved the praise. Leo came running onto the track looks like I made the right choice then. He loves you Aaron, well done good work today. Now hurry back to the office we have lot of things to talk about Aaron nodded and jumped off the colt's back, handed him to the handlers, and went to the office, wondering what Leo wanted to see him for.
