INNOCENT PASSION AND KRYSTAL YHATE
VENTURA AND AMBER BLACK
ANNA'S WORKOUT FOR THE SHORTSTRIDE MAIDEN TURF
It was try number two for Anna, and that actually wasn't much of a bad thing. She had come third in her initial start last week and was looking to absolutely take to the skies this week in the Shortstride Maiden Turf. Against four others, Krystal was confident in at least placing in the top three. There were horses just making their initial starts this week, and their advantage would be against them. As for the rest of the field, Anna loved to compete, and if she saw any horses she knew from last week there would be a lot of speed. That was part of the reason why they had a workout partner today in the form of powerful filly Ventura.
Ventura was just coming out onto the track right now. She seemed very moody and irritable. Every time Amber tried to get Ven to accelerate or decelerate or even just listen the black pinned her ears back. While she didn't buck - yet - or anything, she was obviously feeling very dark. Amber was feeling similar. She had really wanted to win their first start, but they had settled for third. Ven wasn't running this week but she was definitely running next week, either here or at The Wire racetrack. Either way, she definitely wanted Ven to be grade five by the end of the month. She loved the filly too much and had worked too hard. The filly would win on her next start.
The two fillies were both very competitive, and interestingly enough they were both preceders. This could mean that things would get very hot out there today. Anna competed all the time just for the sake of it. Ven was competitive on the track and moody on and off it. Ven also never gave up, but she also never took no for an answer. Amber always had a tough time riding her due to the filly's stubbornness. It was expected, with Rising Fury being her dam, but it was still a lot to handle. But Amber would handle it. Her beloved Impressario was the filly's sire and she would do anything to ride one of his foals well.
As Anna appeared on the turf track, both fillies reacted simultaneously. Ven's ears pinned back and she absolutely glared in the direction of the bay. Anna's eyes had instead brightened with excitement, and the filly was now questing to compete against her stablemate. They were on the turf today, and Ven took little notice of the surface. Anna was as excited as a horse could get, and Krystal took a tight hold on the bay as they trotted to Ven and began to warm up alongside her. As expected, the two fillies were already competing the crap out of each other. Their trots were hilariously quick, and neither wanted the other filly to have even a slight lead. The canter was worse. Both were constantly trying to break into a gallop. Ven bucked once and then reached out to take a bite out of Anna's neck. Anna snorted furiously and dodged Ven's teeth, skittering sideways as both women brought their mounts under control. When it was finally time to gallop, Amber and Krystal were about ready to drop.
Perhaps this workout wasn't a good idea? We're all going to die!
When given the signal to gallop, both fillies burst into the pace. Ven initially took the lead, but Anna pushed up right alongside to challenge. They were going at an insane pace already as the fillies sought to gain the early advantage. Eventually Anna managed to clinch the lead as Ven dropped back slightly. Her eyes were calculating as she let Anna take the lead and run with it. Krystal attempted to hold the filly back but she was essentially bolting. Eventually, she brought the filly back under control with a huge effort and just managed to rate her speed to a reasonable level.
They were going to race for seven furlongs. Half a mile in, with Anna about two lengths ahead and looking happy, Ven decided it was time to go. Amber didn't stop her as, with a burst of sudden speed, they narrowed the gap and came up alongside Anna with two and a half furlongs to spare. The fractions were sizzling as Anna responded in kind and the match to find out who was better began again. Amber and Krystal felt like they were in the ride of their lives as the wire drew ever closer. Would they ever manage to survive to it? The fillies were essentially breathing fire as they crossed under the wire neck to neck and their riders attempted to pull them up. Ven bucked again before responding. Her eyes seemed to mock Anna alongside her. As for Anna and Krystal, the bay didn't slow down until Ven had.
As they finally stopped, the fillies engaged in a glaring match. Amber and Krystal stared at each other with awe in their eyes. Their fillies were lathered in sweat and had worked hard, but those fractions...! They could feel the eyes of stunned onlookers studying their fillies and their riders. Hopefully this blowout work would have been more than enough to get Anna going for her second start!
